Day of the Chameleon is a WGA registered script action/adventure story about the theft of an "invisible" stealth aircraft (based on an article I wrote for Popular Science Magazine on "active camouflage") and the attempt to find it and destroy it before it can be used in terrorist attacks on America.
When I wrote it, I had hopes that someone like Michael Bay would direct it. It was originally titled STEALTH, but when I registered it with the WGA, they notified me STEALTH was already taken, so it was retitled.
Needless to say when STEALTH did finally come out, I was very disappointed because my script was considerably better than that forgettable movie, plus I was a bit more than peeved to see another secret stealth aircraft project I had written about in Popular Science (a variable geometry aircraft known as the Switchblade) used so prominently in the film.
Kind of felt ripped-off even though the script STEALTH bore no resemblance to my script, but obviously the production team had been influenced by my work in Pop Sci.
Keep in mind as you read this script, I originally wrote it in 2000, shopped it around to several agencies and production houses ( who really liked it and suggested some changes) and it also rated high praise in a Final Draft competition -- however - then came the horrible tragedy that occurred on September 11th and to my great dismay, suddenly not one studio would touch anything that had anything to do with terrorism and aircraft.
As a result, the script was shelved.
But the times have changed, so I have decided to dust it off, post it online to provoke comment, and see if it still a fresh idea and something I should seriously begin thinking about polishing up and doing a major re-write on.
So read on - and let me know what you think!
