Strapping Young Lad (aka SYL) is a Canadian metal band, started by Devin Townsend in 1994. Their sound is generally described as industrial death metal/thrash metal with strong progressive metal influences, which incorporates symphonic synth-melodies and a wall of sound production technique, although this differs from album to album.
