Hey -- it's been quite a while since I was the first member or poster in a group. Great idea, moo! I'm not as big a collector or hoarder as some people in my family, but I think I can come up with a picture or two.
This is a pic of the most awful ornament/thing that I have (not the MOST awful, just one that I found in the course of my research yesterday) - you can't see because of the flash, but it's shiny black, it's a china duck, about 12" in length - maybe real-life size actually - and the best part, if you look not even closely, is that it's beak has broken off several times and been reattached. The join has been invisibly mended (hah - you wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't pointed it out!) by glueing it back on and covering the join with black nail varnish.
It's been sitting on a shelf in the garage for about 10 years or so now. Maybe I'll get rid of it next year...

Ok, I was still sure that I had that brick of coffee that I mentioned in the boring group (http://virb.com/groups/42269884 ) before dekented persuaded me to make this group, so I searched and searched, and I'm sad to report that it must have been thrown away. :(
However, in the course of that futile search I did find some foodstuffs that I'm not proud to report were well beyond their shelf-life (not proud, but pleased at the photo opportunity! They have since been thrown out).
I'm now thinking that the 'what's in your fridge?' group (http://virb.com/groups/19486376 ) needs reinstating, so if anyone has any insights into their food habits, I'd love to hear them...

I have to admit that the term 'pack rat' (or is it 'packrat'?) is not one I've come across in the UK, though I've heard it mentioned here often enough so I'm guessing you'll know what the group is about.
All of you people who can't bring yourself to throw stuff away - those of you that are sure that whatever it is you've stashed away will one day be useful (It wasn't useful first time around - stop kidding yourselves) - those compulsive hoarders or collectors as you may prefer to be known - this is your group. Those of you who go to yard sales or thrift shops with your sack full of clearouts, only to return with twice as much - they do say that one person's rubbish is another's treasure. You, my friend, have a houseful of treasure...
We're all guilty of it to some extent - some of us are worse than others but there's no real shame, is there? So what if you can't get through your front door any more? That's what the back door is for. As for the 'spare' room - just extra storage space, temporary of course.
You know who you are - get out the camera and show us the incriminating evidence. Your collections, your rubbish, your long-forgotten useful objects - who has the oldest or weirdest stuff? Let's make it fun.
