I want some opinions from you all. What do you think?

I recently went to Egypt (it was a very enjoyable trip) and sent e-mail updates to some of my close friends and family throughout the trip, cataloging my experiences, thoughts and feelings about the trip (and a little on life, in general). I also took numerous photos, and some of them turned out very nice. I am going to assemble all of those e-mails (in the form of a blog-ish thing) and put the text in a book along side the photos that correspond with the text (when I talk about my experiences at the pyramids, I would include the photos I took of the pyramids on the same page - this just makes sense). This is going to be my "Egypt Journal."

My question is this: What if I were to make my Egypt Journal available for purchase on Amazon.com (or elsewhere)? Do you think anyone would buy it? Is there even a small market for such things? I know that lately there has been a surge in blogging and other similar "share-your-intimate-life-with-the-public" media. I'm kind of thinking that some people might actually be entertained by my thoughts and experience in Egypt, even if they don't know me. Granted, I wouldn't put anything terribly specific in the book so as to prevent people from actually learning super-specific details from my personal life; but I would certainly share those personal thoughts I had while in Egypt visiting the grand sights and historic places. Plus, a few of my photographs really did come out nice.

So, without actually getting to preview any of the book, I want to know if you think it might sell. Thank you for your thoughts.

I published my first book, "ArchAngel", on Mobipocket Books. Its also available on the new Amazon.com Kindle reader. I put up a version you can read online Free! to help promote the name. I figure its more important for people to actually read my first book than to try and make money off of it. Check it out, i would love some feedback. I'm working on my second book now. You can find it at http://archangelxx.net or at my main website http://maxwellcynn.com

thanks

Writers are easily the most overlooked group of people on any social networking site. I see no little button in the Virb bar for exploring authors...

So, what does everyone here like to write? :)

I write "WhateverAnything" ... :D I love writing fiction, nonfiction and everything in between. I'm not terribly good at poetry though, so I avoid that...

hm.. I mean, I write on here, on Virb, a lot. But not in this group; it would have seemed odd when no one else was. But I would definitely be open to a revolution.

i don't mean stories or poems, i just would have expected some sort of a coherent string of words in the comment section of a writers group. thoughts, ideas, something. i thought it might be nice to post an excerpt from a lecture italo calvino gave on writing. here goes.

from a collection of six essays by italo calvino, Six Memos for the Next Millennium . ostensibly about storytelling, but i think also about living and being.

from lightness

"my working method has more often than not involved the subtraction of weight. i have tried to remove weight, sometimes from people, sometimes from heavenly bodies, sometimes from cities; above all i have tried to remove weight from the structure of stories and from language.

i shall try to explain why i have come to consider lightness a value rather than a defect.

i hope to have shown that there is such a thing as a lightness of thoughtfulness, just as we all know that there is a lightness of frivolity. in fact, thoughtul lightness can make frivolity seem dull and heavy.

Milan Kundera's novel The Unbearable Lightness of Being is in reality a bitter confirmation of the Ineluctable Weight of Living, not only in the situation of deperate and all-pervading oppression that has been the fate of his hapless country, but in a human condition common to us all, however infinitely more fortunate we may be. for Kundera the weight of living consist chefly in constriction, in the dense net of public and private constrictions that enfolds us more and more closely. his novel shows us how everything we choose and value in life for its lightness soon reveals its true, unbearable weight. perhaps only the liveliness and mobility of the intelligence escape this sentence--the very qualities with which this novel is written, and which belong to a world quite differnet from the one we live in.

whenever humanity seems condemned to heaviness, i think i should fly like Perseus into a different space. i don't mean escaping into dreams or into the irrational. i mean that i have to change my approach, look at the world from a different perspective, with a differnet logic and with fresh methods of cognition and verification. the images of lightness that i seek should not fade away like dreams dissolved by the realities of present and future....."

i want to do this; to understand this. i have wasted too many years escaping into dreams and the irrational.

Collective Lens says:

If anyone is interested in contributing articles to Collective Lens, please let us know. Our online magazine is growing, and we're looking for more writers to create articles that bring awareness to important causes. Our aim is to educate and inform the public about important issues around the globe. If you know of an organization or an issue in your area that needs more attention, writing an article would be a great way to highlight the cause. We also have many ideas for articles, and not enough time to get them down, so you need not have an idea already if you still want to help.

Check out our profile or http://www.collectivelens.com for more information about Collective Lens.

Thanks!
