Psychobilly!

Zombies and guitars, what could possibly go wrong?

From wikipedia:

"Psychobilly is a genre of music generally described as a mix between the punk rock of the 1970s and the American rockabilly of the 1950s.

The genre is characterized by lyrical references to horror films, violence, exploitation films, lurid sexuality and other topics generally considered taboo -- sometimes presented in a comedic, tongue-in-cheek fashion. Psychobilly music is often played with an upright bass instead of an electric bass."

That about sums it up...

But forgets the most important point: It's the most fun you can have while being dead...

Ah, then you can answer one question that's been bugging me: How do these electric uprights react to being properly slapped? does it sound close to an acoustic upright?

Agent_M says:

sadly i dont have a pickup on mine due to a lack of money :P but people seem to get good results using a rev 2 solo pickup with a 'clicker' on the back of the fingerboard, some cheap transducer thing from raidoshack to pickup the clicks.
things like horrorpops sounds quite abit like stray cats in terms of the slaps and i believe the stray cats used mics rather than a pickup.
but to be honest i think its mostly down to how you setup the equalizer really.
a good place to ask would behttp://rockabillybass.com/phpBB/ they will know alot more than me about it.

personally though im going for the rev 2 with the extra transducer on the fingerboard, its also a whole lot cheaper than the k&k rockabilly pickups

Nice to see all those people turn up! Welcome everyone! So, how did everyone get into Psychobilly? Ihad personally never hear of it before I started playing bass and hanging out on a bass forum where the bass player of the Killbillies hangs out from time to time... I listened to their stuff and got hooked... I only have the Horrorpops and the Necromantix in my collection so far, but I'm more than open to suggestions for other bands to discover!

:)

What about y'all?
