Buffalo, NY. It's cold. Sometimes we like it. Most of the time, we don't. But we have an amazing history, good colleges, a decent music scene, several claims to fame through actors, musicians, and movie plots, good pizza and wings (chicken wings, not "buffalo" wings), and our bars are open until 4 AM. So it isn't all bad, despite the fact that we are ranked as one of the worst cities in which to find a mate, our public schools and politicians are ridiculous, and our population dwindles as our sales tax goes up.
Does Lockport, NY count? I don't live there anymore (my parents still do) - it's where I grew up! But I did spend all my time hanging in Buffalo - right before The Goo Goo Dolls were about to hit. Did you know that The Goo Goos used to tape plastic down on the stage and around their equipment when they played because, believe it or not, The Goo Goos used to be punk (Johnny Goo had bright red hair, if I remember correctly) and the thing to do during their shows was to throw plastic cups of beer at them. So, they would actually play soaking wet and barefoot sliding around the stage while they played. They were super cool back in the day... I can also remember going to see 10,000 Maniacs many times for $5 at the door (they were from Jamestown, NY)... Mary Ramsey and John Lombardo (John and Mary) played a lot - Mary played the viola like no one else I've ever seen...and I fondly remember David Kane and Them Jazzbeards. David Kane is a genius - I hope he is doing well...I guess you could say I miss Buffalo. Well, sort of...I don't miss the snow :-D
