I *think* this has been mentioned before but how about some type of WYSIWYG editor for messages / comments(?) etc. Also, preview message, preview comment maybe?

No, pls no wysiwyg, no image inserting, no font size options, no smilieys icons, no mess.
Maybe just bold and italic buttons would be ok :)
The message previews is a good suggestion.

Let's look at it this way. What formatting options should be allowed that will enhance comments and posts but still prevent the idiots who are simply out to SPAM and promote crap?
That is, allow basic text formatting like bolding, italics and underlining as well as the ability to post links. That's about all is really needed. And yes, it would be great if there was some WYSIWYG controls to help the HTML-illiterate peeps out a little.

@Masey: That's what I meant :)
@ever.cz: Try to remember that not everyone speaks html / css and sometimes it will be necessary to post images in comments and to emphasise text etc. I don't like it as much as you when it is just pointless and disruptive, but sometimes it is necessary and these things can be done in a sensible and controlled way (like only allowing to increase a font size to a certain point). Whether you have a WYSIWYG or not it's gonna happen. I was thinking Bold, Italic, Underline, Insert Image, Insert Hyperlink, Quote. etc.

I'm just curious about something. I noticed today that two of my favourite bands "The Fray" and "OAR" now have links to their own pages from my list of songs recently played. when you get to their pages they have only a photo and a message saying "This profile has been locked. Please check back later."
What does this mean? Does it mean that the band themselves have started up a profile and are in the processes of putting their pages together? Does it mean that someone is "profile squatting" and the page has nothing to do with the band? Does anyone know?

I'm pretty sure the guys imported so many of the most popular artists from purevolume.com to VIRB, and I think these profiles are just awaiting someone (from the record label or band etc) to come and do something with them. I'm not 100% sure though.

Well that's pretty much what I guessed. I really hope they jump on the bandwagon sooner rather than later...

you are absolutely correct dan. over the course of the next couple weeks you will start seeing more and more of these 'locked' bands becoming unlocked.

Any chance there's any solid Aussie acts in the queue? Eskimo Joe? Pete Murray? Wolfmother? Powderfinger?

Cheers for that... now if you'd only give me a few more invites I can pump up the Aussie population in here!!! :P

On a related note, I loved the combination lock image that popped up when I tried to access a private group.

tags get sanitized too much when they get turned into urls, e.g. c++ and c# both show up as /tags/c, even though those are two distinct things.
also, it's not readily apparent how to format blog (and i suppose other) posts, comments, etc. what xhtml is allowed? what's not? how the heck to i create a hyperlink? the anchor tag gets stripped out...

Can any comment be made on what sort of RSS features are going to be introduced? I mean even on this page the feed icon appears in my Firefox address bar, but it certainly doesn't link to any kind of feed at this stage...
Feeds are obviously paramount to the success of widgets and modules that can be developed for third party applications like "Netvibes.com" etc, so it would be good to see them built in when and where possible.

Not sure if this has already come up, but has there been any thought or discussion put to the idea of allowing us to import RSS feed items to substitute our VIRB Blog? I for one can't be bothered with the double entry required to post my existing Blog entries into VIRB. Facebook does this EXTREMELY well if you need a model to check out.
You would make my YEAR if this could be looked at seriously...

We have talked about it and plan on having an RSS import and export for things like blogs and photos at some point.
Not sure how soon we will get to it but it has definitely been considered and talked about.

Mmmm...I, too, am a huge fan of the Facebook approach, and would love it if that happened here. Maybe if more folks speak up about it we'll see it sooner rather than later :-)

+1 from me, I'd love to include my Twitter status in a sidebar widget, or even get it to replace my tagline.
Will some of the bigger services actually see complete and official integration? Like Flickr and so on?

at any point in time will virb have an "online now" signal?
or even just a blinking dot next to names of people who are currently on?
