Private photo album?
I couldn't find how/where to do this, but I'd like to have an album not be visible to anybody. I like the idea of using the module $VIRB_photosPortfolio(Nameofalbum) to randomly load one image as a "header" image, but I don't like fact that you can see these photos when you remove the customization and click on My Photos.
Any thoughts on how to remedy this anybody?
Anyways, it'd still be really nice to have a "public" or "private" checkbox or option for albums/photos.

Hi, I've a couple suggestions. The first, to make a privacy setting in which only other logged in virb users can view my profile. The Second, to add an option to view lists of "liked" things. I'm thinking maybe this second suggestions is already available, so I might just need to be pointed in the right direction. :-)

Go to "Your Home" and under your friend requests, comments, etc. (On the left side) You'll see a heart icon and something like this |Your Likes 7|

How I managed to not notice this, I do not know. Is there an option to view other users' likes?

Not that I know of. "Likes" are just personal bookmarks, hope there will be an option to display them soon.

whats the difference between logged in virb users, not logged in virb users or non virb users? if you are still allowing random people to view your page, it doesnt really make much of a difference.

well, i'd prefer non-virb users to at least have an account to see my profile.

I agree with being able to change the number of comments shown. You would think that putting a number in the parenthesis for it on the advanced customization page would change it, but it doesn't.
There are relationship tags. If you are on "your home" go to friends, from there you can click on a person and add tags. Or do you mean something else?

But, why have a cap on it? Let the user decide if he/she only wants to have 1 comment displayed.

...you misunderstand.
put a cap so you cant display 50 comments on a page.
by "not too low a cap" i meant don't leave it at just 20 for a max.
maybe 30 should be max comments. iduno.
there should be no minimum though

I agree on the display of x number of comments. I actually tried to modify this in the Advanced settings by changing " $VIRB_Comments()" to "$VIRB_Comments(10)" but it did nothing. The syntax appears to be valid because I didn't get any warnings or errors when I changed it...it just doesn't result in anything.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, I hope, but I'm wondering if there's ever going to be a mobile version of virb? I get on the internet A LOT from my treo. And actually, virb is already blocked at my work, unfortunately. Even though my phone can handle regular sites pretty decently there's some features on virb that can't be used through my phone.
So I'm just wondering if that's coming at all?
By the way, I heart virb.

lol Nah. They just block high bandwidth type sites when the network is at high volume, which is always is. For example, MySpace is blocked. And even though I have an account, I never go on there at all. So I'm sure they're watching. Just not me in particular. lol
Btw, I'm on a rare moment signed in at work. Shh!
So uh, mobile version of virb anyone?

Jonathan says:
What feature would it offer though? And are you just talking about an optimized version? I think it'll be a pretty hard thing to do, since there are so many gorgeous profiles here that are not intended to be viewed on a small screen.
Still, a cool suggestion :)

origino, that is true. the profiles might not be as pretty.. lol but, yes I was implying just an optimized version. I mean, twitter was completely accessible on my phone before they went mobile.. but they still went mobile. So why not virb, I say? :D
Dude, I want a real smiley there, too. lol

I noticed that when I try to browse through the links here at the site via a keyboard (eg: tab), the outline is removed from all links here at the website. This is a bad move with accessibility and was wondering if it could be removed, so that the default is back. Not only that but when I viewed it on a cellphone, I had no idea where I was and what link I was clicking simply because this accessibility feature was removed.

I'm pretty sure when you tab through links that the outline is created by the browser.

Sometimes setting outline: none in the CSS will kill any outlines. You might want to check that...
posted Jun 14
Jordan says:
^ Like Fyorl said, you can actually remove that "browser" feature through CSS. You guys do have a outline: none being used in _css/global.css
posted Jun 14
Joe says:
i have to agree. the outlines should be there for link browsing.
its a standard accessibility feature.
posted Jun 14
Jordan says:
You shouldn't agree or even disagree with accessibility. If they should add :focus, then it would make sense to just remove outline: none and NOT add :focus (it would just make it prettier; who cares about that, so long as a user can see the outline). It's redundent to have outline: none but have :focus. Either way, accessibility wins.
posted Jun 17
Xavez says:
Virb is all about being pretty. So why keep the outline? If they add a focus state, the problem is solved. And it looks good. And I never said accessibility (though it's more of a usability issue) was not an issue, which I think you are implying. Correct me if I'm wrong.
By the way: I'm not seeing any outlines on your profile? =]. If you're so concerned about usability...
posted Jun 17
Jordan says:
The outline is NEVER something you think/change when you're designing nor should anyone use the excuse of "all about being pretty" to remove an accessibility feature. This is a feature that you do NOT see unless you navigate with a keyboard (or mobile, which usually scrolls by links, etc.) so why change it (eg: remove it, or make it "pretty.")
Also, you're not seeing it on my profile because Virb is using outline: none in _css/global.css, which if you read my other posts in this comment thread, you wouldn't try to imply that I'm being a hypocrite.
posted Jun 18
Fyorl says:
My most recent web app removes the outline from some of the links because they're being converted into buttons and it looks weird when the outline appears onclick of a button. That's about the only case I can think of for removing the outline (e.g. when a link isn't behaving like a link). Although now you mention it, I should probably add a focus state so that it behaves like your average button... for accessibility's sake ;)

Xavez says:
Jordan: I know what outline does and what it was designed for. There are numerous situations in which you could use outline:none; tot hide the dotted border. It is merely a way of showing the user what exactly the focused element in the document is. When you design a website, do you leave your links underlined and in blue, red and purple? I didn't think so... Outline is nothing more than the standard way of showing the focus state of an element. And it's a focus state you can style. Adding outline: none; and not replacing it with a visually different focus state, that would raise some valid usability concerns :).
I knew you were going to say that about the global css. But being such a usability concerned developer, why do you not re-enable the outline, then? Yes, I think you're being a bit of a hypocrite :). Considering your point of view, and I take it you are truly concerned, you would have long overridden the outline: none; property in your own stylesheet :).
posted Jun 18
Jordan says:
Are you really that dense? I am more concerned about accessibility, not usability, which is what I consider the outline to be. My suggestion is for it to be re-enabled site wide. Yes, I have the ability to do it on just my profile, but what is that proving? Nothing at all, since it's still not going to work with the rest of the site. I am not going to justify the lack of accessibility by adding it to just my profile.
Overriding it on my own personal stylesheet is hardly being concerned. Being concerned is my suggestion to enable it site wide (eg: through the global stylesheet.)
posted Jun 18
Xavez says:
I'm not going to start a riot over what term is used to define what. Re-enabling it on your profile would prove to me you are concerned over your users.
You still haven't answered the core question I raised though: why not simply add a focus state, rather than leaving the outline: none on? What objection do you have against it? Cause if there is one, I sure as hell don't see it :).

Cobalt Design says:
Ok.. wow. Jordan... Xavez never said accessibilty is less important than usability. He's simply stating to use a focus instead of an outline because you can style it. It's the same effect, just prettier. Though Xavez, I sincerely disagree that she's being a hypocrite. Tophe... you're funny. Keep it up.

@Lain- um, do you even get how rare it is that the developers listen and respond so directly to our requests at all? this isn't a beta, this is live, with maintenance issues I doubt most of us could begin to fathom. as i ranted above, they have a small, ridiculously responsive staff that is likely working their asses off on the thousands of other feature requests and bug reports already in the hat.

Funnily enough I don't think has actually been suggested. There have been numerous requests for comment replies to anything and everything to appear in the comments section of 'Your Home' but perhaps adding email notifications to that might be appropriate too? Obviously having the option to turn them off would be a bonus...
