Yeah, I'm the friend that told Dave about it. We're both seminary students at Trinity, and I'm excited about this group as well. It seems like it's really hard to find people who even understand Open Theism (most people just caricature it), much less a group of people that agree with it. I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences and how you guys came to see it as the way in which God interacts with His creation. It's late, so I'm headed to bed now, but I look forward to the discussion.
"Open theism, which denies that God can foreknow free human choices, dishonors God, distorts Scripture, damages faith, and would, if left unchecked, destroy churches and lives. Its errors are not peripheral but central."

Hey everybody. I heard about the group through a friend somebody invited here. I am a sympathizer to the cause :) Currently I am working on my M.Div at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. It has been challenging sometimes as I have shared my views with a few people. Normally I try to fly under the radar, I'm used to having to do that coming from East Texas where anything other than Paige Patterson and Southwestern is heresy. Anyway, it is cool to have a place like this to support and pray for one another as well as discuss all our thoughts as our intellectual adventures continue. Looking forward to a lot of good interaction.
I've been reading Boyd's books. I like his stuff most, out of all the openess guys. Have you guys read "God At War"? I highly recommend that read.

So, I'll be honest......I don't really know what open theism is. Is it basically saying we choose how our future will unfold as opposed to our future is already determined?
Tonight im attending a debate between John Sanders, Open Theist author of "The God Who Risks," and John Jefferson Davis, professor at the seminary i attend (Gordon-Conwell). It should be good. But im a little disappointed because i did a little research into Davis' view and it seems he has more in common with Open Theism than he does against it. I would prefer to see Sanders debate a Calvinist. That would be fun.

Open Theism ...better than lighting your hair on fire.

whats up with the lack of discussion? Is it just that Virb is too new and nobody is on here, or is it the topic, or what? I would have thought that such a controversial subject would attract all kinds of attention. Guess not. Should i be recruiting folk from other theology-related groups?

A group for those who find intellectual and spiritual satisfaction in the reconciliation of the two parallel streams of scripture which describe the simultaneous certainty and openness of the future provided by the scholarship of personalities like Greg Boyd, Clark Pinnock, John Sanders, et al. known as Openness, the Open View, or Open Theism.
A group celebrating God's loving invitation of humanity to cooperate in determining the future and participate in dynamic relationship.
A group for the discussion of topics including but not limited to: omniscience, exhaustive foreknowledge, middle knowledge, determinism, volition, etc.
