I was browsing the groups and saw this today - Just as my current Moleskin is reaching capacity and I was thinking about getting my next. The Pocket Size , adapted to use for GTD is my everyday companion.
I love gel pens, and used them for all my writing. But after I destroyed 4 Tombo pens in my pocket carrying it around -I finally gave the Fisher Space Pen a chance. I had one as a kid - but never used one recently. Love, love, love it! m I Feel like I left home with out my shoes on the rare occassion I forget to stick it in my pocket.. I bought them for everyone in my department on our Television show - And Moleskins too. Great to be prepared!

I got a Set of Volants today, because the cover of the cahiers always bothered me.
Boy, did I have to jump through hoops to find them though. Which got me thinking, how far would you go to get a certain kind of moleskine, especially a discontinued veriety? If they weren't at any stores in your city, to what lengths would you go?

Um, hello.
It's possible that our Moleskine group could use a new, custom photo for its icon. Maybe one from one of you? If you'd like, post a good photo of your personal Moleskine in a comment. If I like it, I'll use it. If I don't like it, I won't tell you so we can still be friends.
Go.

The second most important part of the moleskine might be the pen or pencil. Which only begs the question, "what do you use?" For me, I have a nice cross pen with a felt (think fine point sharpie) tip, which doesn't smug when I write. Imperative for anyone who is left handed.
Thoughts?

.5mm mechanical pencil.
i've used .3mm and i prefer it's writing better, however, the lead breaks very often.

I use this, but I'm considering switching. The impacts run out of ink almost every five days, but I can' switch until I fill up my current moleskines.

Being a southpaw I can relate to the smudging issue.
I've tried a number of different pens and haven't found anything I like using more than the Pilot G2.

I got hooked on the G2 while using "lesser" notebooks...but once I made the move to moleskins I found that it smudges far too much.
Not only does the Uniball Vision Elite smudge a lot less, but it's also built to allow for significant and frequent altitude changes without bursting in your pocket, like a lot of liquid ink pens

Uniball Vision Elite micro tip. Has the nice scratchy feel that pen should have. Preferably with blue/black ink.

I hate that scratchy feel. I love the Gel Impact because it doesn't even feel like writing so much as just sliding my pen over glass. To each his own.

Being a Lefty, pen type is very important. Especially when writing in the smaller moleskins. I became hooked on the smoothness of the G2 a long time ago. Although the G2 is great, I recently switched to the Zebra telescoping pen. It collapse to 3.5-4 inches. Writes as smooth as most ball points.

The city guides definitely look sweet. I'll be picking up a couple of the Boston editions for some friends that are new to the area (and maybe one for myself too).

Bah. Just write when it feels right. I go up to two weeks without writing in mine, then suddenly write ten or twenty pages worth. Don't force it.

cheers to the polaroids!
and I agree, definitely don't force writing; but it's a good idea to always carry it around so that you never feel like you can't jot something down when it hits you.

Or paint in it. Or draw in it. Or cut it. Or sew in it. It's pretty amazing what people do to their moleskines.

I'm such a moleskine n00b. Only two notebooks and six cahiers.
I have, however, finally found a pen I like. The uni-ball gel impact seems to work extremely well.

I finally ordered a Pocket Weekly Planner! I had seen them end of last year at Barnes & Noble and stupidly postponed buying one. After that day I couldn't find them anywhere. Now I finally remembered to order one, got it from Amazon. It still goes through the Moleskine company but I think I saved a bit on shipping compared to going through the main company site.
I debated whether to get the soft cover one or not... I preferred the page layout of the hard one and I have plenty of Cahiers so the two should fit nicely together. (Would have been great to get one of the Red Limiteds, but they are gone everywhere except for Ebay for $30). I've been really struggling to figure out a good organization strategy for my notes and tasks and realized that having a calendar with me all the time would work much better than trying to schedule things later online as I've been doing.
Anyway... Moleskine's are wonderful despite the price, you have to pay for perfection.
