TWO Sugar Land, TX groups?! Amazing. I have family there from waaaay back. My grandparents lived there for a long time & my aunt & uncle are still there. Wonderful place. I love the building of its namesake -- the mill. Is it still standing?

Imperial/Tract 3: A Public-Private Partnership Moves Forward
Sugar Land City Council has voted to approve the development agreement and general plan put forth by Cherokee Investment Partners for the Imperial Sugar/Tract 3 land. Cherokee has since closed on the property and now owns the Imperial Sugar Refinery and surrounding area.
Over the next few months, Cherokee will work with the City to implement that development plan for the Imperial Sugar property and the Fort Bend County Permanent School Fund Tract 3%u2014the legal name for the large tract bordered by S.H. 6, Burney Rd., Voss Rd. and Imperial. The State of Texas, as a co-owner of the Tract 3 land, is partnering with Cherokee who will act as the managing partner.
The developer%u2019s next step is to submit a rezoning application from its current temporary R-1 Single Family and M-2 General Industrial to a Planned Development District (PD). A PD is a tailored zoning district that specifies certain aspects of the future development such as land uses in particular areas, buffer zones, and bulk restrictions that regulate height, area and density. The PD rezoning process includes several opportunities for public involvement. Prior to the official public hearings required, Cherokee intends to hold voluntary public input meetings. These will be scheduled in the near future.
The City looks forward to working with Cherokee in this public-private partnership to implement the development plans.
