Re this group chat thing - no, I have never got it to work. (talked to lisa on the usual gchat function but not in a group). I read that you can do it, and heard from friends that THEY can but on the bit in 'options' (bottom left) where you're supposed to be able to select the group chat option, all I have is a choice of blocking someone, or taking the chat off record.
Is it the way I log on or something? (I chat by seeing if someone I've listed - and previously either invited to chat/accepted invitation to chat - is online - ie there's a green or amber light - then just click on that and type in the pop-up box.
Is there a different way?

Sounds like you are doing it the right way. I have gotten it to work without issue. Perhaps it has not been rolled around to your neck of the woods yet. Have you seen the support page?

moo says:
yeah m Dot - that's where I saw about supposedly having the group chat option in my options in bottom left - but I don't have that, so maybe as you say it hasn't made its way over here yet. Frustrating to know some people can use it and I can't though...

Ok, just checked the help section on gmail and forund a discussion group and someone was asking the same as me, about why I don't even have that option, and guess what? You must have the new gmail version and:
You must have either IE 7 or Firefox 2.0.0.10 or Safari 3 to get the
new gmail version and in the English us Language
so looks like, yet again, I'm stuck in the dark ages. So, any of you that chat to me - it'll just be me, no groups - sorry!

Sorry guys, but GMail is simply a corporate scheme to sell advertisement space to corporations. You all got screwed, mainly because the service isn't that great. I guess that's just my opinion, though. Yup... That's right... The only smart way to e-mail is through MrHelms.com. Please direct hate mail to: Josh@mrhelms.com
Thank you,

It's also the best 3rd party hosted solution I've ever used, paid or not. Free POP3, SMTP and Jabber servers, not to mention the interface. I certainly hope they're making money off me, so they can stay in business, and I can keep their free service.

well, the ads from google

also, you obviously have never heard of

but, then again, why would i even assume
you've heard of firefox, because for someone
who is a self proclaimed "fuckin' computer nerd,"
your website sure does look like complete shit,
but i guess i shouldn't expect too much from

Mr. Helms says:
FYI, Dez... Snap, the cat scratches. My first experimentation with Firefox was on RedHat 9... You're familiar with Linux... Right?? You're right about my website, though... I don't spend as much time with it as I should... That, and the only languages that I've had time to teach myself are CSS, HTML, JavaScript and a bit of C/C . Back to FireFox, though. One of the only two reasons for using firefox is because of it's lack of extra shit. Less non essential extra shit, the few resources that get used. I'm not going to use an alternate browser just so I can fill it with all of the shit that I was attempting to avoid with IE. "Windows Mouse Jockey"... I liked that comment... I'm currently dual-booting Vista and Ubuntu... Last week was Mandrivia, or Mandrake for the old fockers... To shorten this a bit... I'm familiar with just about every popular distribution of the Tux-bearing operating systems (I'm Bundling BSD into that category as well... I know... Linus would kick my ass). (Upon reading your profile, I noticed that you, yourself are a self proclaimed UNIX geek... Therefore you probably can interpret the jargon)... Well... I've got to work on some transition affects in a few videos, so please... Do screw yourself, and have a nice day. On a final note though... I was unable to find many examples of your photography abilities on your profile. I did appreciate the talent behind you profile pic, though. And.... That's all I've got...

....that's all I'm saying except for .... FIREFOX! everywhere I go it's bloody firefox....That is the bane of my life (and yes, yes, I know....)

Mr. Helms says:
Moo... you're absolutely right about every point in that statement. Dez isn't going to need your help defending b/c based on his blogs on 925, he's apparently better spoken than myself. Then again, there isn't really anything to defend, other than why anyone in the world would possibly use GMail by choice. You were also correct about him having some awesome photos. I apparently mistook the banner for a purposeless profile design on my first scan. Firefox is everywhere... And given six more months, a majority of the computer literate world will probably be switching to Opera because of FireFox's widespread success which will ultimately lead to security holes, spyware, and possibly even viruses. Unless, of course, you're using a Unix based O.S.
Now, on a completely separate note... Dez... Flash is not coding. I'll give credit that it does require some artistic ability, which you seem to have plenty of, but, Flash is simply an over-priced excuse for website design. I guess, if you've got the green, though... More power to ya.

Mr Helms.
You don't know the history of me and my battles with firefox, so I will just say that I don't use it but not through choice and everyone now knows that as soon as I upgrade my useless laptop and get something that isn't as antiquated as IE, then I will let everyone tell me that they told me so - and I have absolutely no doubts at all that you are all right!
As for gmail - I have yahoo too but I like the gchat option on gmail - it keeps me up to date with my friends around here that choose to talk to me away from virb, and I like the way it works - I'm sure that google is storing up all sorts of information about me as I speak - though it will no doubt be somewhat confused if it ever tries to read my mind.
I don't know enough about computers or anything remotely technical to know if what I use is good or bad - I just know it works for me.
And credit to you for the comments above - it's quite rare to see anyone actually admit being even slightly wrong in their initial opinions. Usually people just sound off then go off elsewhere to have a dig at someone else. A welcome change indeed.

Oh it's you!
(I still think 'Grumpy' would be an easier name) - and Northern has an 'r' ...
anyhow - yes, I probably could download firefox but as I have said countless times, this is only a small crappy laptop with a small limited memory (and I have no idea how much memory firefox would use up) but really I don't HATE IE - ok, I can't view everyone's profiles with it and I'm sure firefox has some great options blah blah - but really, I am not a computer geek and I don't care really. I use this to play on virb, I use gmail, I check out my yahoomail, flickr, all the rest (not facebook as it's either this computer or who knows, but it throws me out) otherwise I really don't need more - YET! My next gadget is going to be the upgraded camera, then sometime in the new year I'll get a proper computer - not sure which yet (don't sell me a mac either - I will decide for myself) but be assured I WILL get something all-singing, all-dancing when I'm ready...
Really - I'm happy as I am. I just feel I hear 'firefox' everywhere I go...
Ohh - Mighty Boosh on - have to go...

Turaturai [~is lost~] says:
Oh aye. Goodness gracious I can't believe I left out the 'r'. Thanks.
Firefox memory use will be higher than IE6, but I've still found version 2.0 to run okay in 64 MB of RAM. Then again, I know how to look after a computer and I don't waste memory with stuff like anti-virus software, so practical mileage may vary.

I've done that one year ago, not because of security concerns but because Opera is way faster and takes less resources than Firefox. But i like both browsers...

I am a complete newcomer to gmail. I only got an account up and running 2 days ago and I love it already.
I spend far too long on the internet but gmail seems like it's got it right and I'm discovering all sorts of new things that I can do with it (and not just e-mails which is what I had thought it would be!)
I have a feeling that my yahoo and hotmail may get used less and less until I abandon them completely!
(I'm not stupid enough to hand out my address publically here but those of you that know me can ask for it or let me have yours - you never know, I may let you in on the secret...you know how I like to chat!)
And I'm glad there's this group because I would have felt compelled to start one myself if not!
