A group to celebrate the esscense that is black and white photography. That which is simple and complex, and the tones, rather than colors (or colours) of the world.
Monochromatic photographs are commonly, and have commonly, been created on silver-gelatin film, but had their start far earlier, and also, more digitally, where de-saturated color photographs reveal the grayscale that lies behind. Common brands of film for black and white photography include, but are not limited to; Ilford, Fuji, Kodak, and Agfa, all of which have a large selection of films for the purpose. All digital cameras can produce a grayscale image, but do not replicate the same effect of film directly from the camera, but such effects can be attempted in applications such as Photoshop.
A black and white photographer escapes the bounds of color and deal in shape, texture, and shadow to express themselves visually. A black and white photograph also carries cultural significance and connotations like nostalgia, or producing the effect of a certain time period, they can convey strong emotions in this way.
