I made "Eggy in a basket" according to this super basic hardly-qualifies-as recipe "http://www.recipezaar.com/162532" This recipe has a bunch of different names; "Eggy in a basket" just happens to be the name used in V for Vendetta.
1) Butter bread on both sides (I put a piece of butter in the microwave till it just started to melt in order to soften it up)
2) Somehow make a hole in the bread (I used a pretty thin glass probably 2.25" in diameter.)
3) Heat up non-stick frying pan or other non-stick cooking-worthy surface (think Hotshots here) to medium heat. I would recommending leaning towards the low-medium side because if it's cooking too slow you can just turn it up, whereas if you burn the bottom...
4) Place the holed-bread on pan, place a piece of butter in the hole, and gently crack an egg and deposit the egg contents into said hole. Hopefully it's big enough that the egg-white doesn't overflow, mine was just perfect. Season the egg ( salt & pepper...)
5) Wait till the egg-white is cooked to nearly the top of the bread in the hole, then flip it (probably easiest with a spatula). This is where the non-stick surface really comes in handy.
6) Wait till you think it's cooked enough on the other side to your liking. I judged it based on how bouncy the center was.
It turned out PERFECT!
I also tossed the center of the bread into the pan to toast as well, then I used it to dip in the yoke.
Note: My first attempt at this went horrible as I thought butter and stainless steel would be pretty non-stick. I also had the heat on way too high as I'm used to scrambling my eggs or otherwise making them very quickly in my morning rush. I also just tore a hole in the bread with my fingers and made it too small and I ruined the evenness of the bread... result: egg white spreading underneath and on top of the bread, combined with the high heat... made it impossible to flip neatly. Basically I had scrambled eggs with bread in it. This time I decided to look up how it's reall...
