Art Thieves Must Die

I know many of you can relate to this.. Your works of art get stolen and someone else goes and puts their own name on it, when they haven't put their soul into it like you did.

This group is for everyone who has ever experienced being victimized by an art thief. As of right now, all art thieves are being put on notice, we will track you down. Be advised that some of our methods are a bit...unorthodox.

Show your support for making art thieves cry by joining today.

I don't think that can be considered stealing. That layout is available as a free download. The theme is called "Bus Full of Hippies".

The one you posted above is probably the most "creative" one... ugh :(

JK, great job exposing these people.

Okay, I'm back...
What do you think would be the best way to indicate to the public that my artwork has a copyright on my virb profile - where can I put it?

Jonathan says:

On the artwork themselves? :D

Perhaps you display a little message on a custom module and place it on the right side... and keep it light, make it sorta like a funny disclaimer.

Joe says:

you could just watermark the ones you put online

allisonberryart says:

I already have an invisible watermark on all of my pieces. I just want to be official about it :-D

Chris says:

origino's idea of displaying a small disclaimer is probably your best bet. Keeping it light and simple will get your point across.

Hi everyone,
Thanks, Filthy Fragger, for starting this group. I have some things that I want to discuss but I have to go to work right now...I know - doesn't that suck??? Well, only if you have to wait tables to pay the bills!!! Later...

alright, so i went through my stats and looked at all the hits from virb. these are people that have lifted code directly from my profile and forgot to take out an image url:

this one is edited a lot, but you can still see where he took parts of the code. if you view the source and look for 'legit' you can see he's hotlinking too

these two are pretty blatant:

Linking to their profiles let's everyone else know that they like to steal other people's work.

Did you call any of them on it?

posted Mar 29

Jon-Kyle says:

yeah, i sent a message/left a comment for each one. all but one took it down

JackMartin says:

That starcrossed layout is actually a good bit different than yours. You see, you have yellow highlights and he has red highlights.

Really though, that's pretty lame to be so obvious about it and not even care. Hope other people get the message.

you didn't do anything to his profile:(

Jon-Kyle says:

nah, i just left him a comment. was too tired to go through the effort of loging into the original profile, editing the code, re-uploading and re-naming images, blalbla just for a couple minutes of laughs

It's nice to see that there are other Virb members feel the same way I do about art thieves. It's become such a big problem on deviantART that a lot of very talented people have decided to pull all of their work down and leave the community.
