The new album from LA based metalcore band Guilt By Association, Living in Silence, is the perfect alloy of mainstream rock and that beat-your-face-in metal. Two guitars keep the momentum fierce and pounding, juxtaposing some of the more eerie edges, with a female bassist singing backup harmonies. The band, which has seen its star rise this summer, is a regular at the legendary Whisky-a-Go-Go in West Hollywood. On this album, they plow through over a dozen tracks covering everything from loneliness and rape to a scorching put-down of organized religion. While Living in Silence may aggravate the most puritan hardcore traditionalists, the album represents a heady new direction for hardcore while remaining palatable for even neophytes to the genre. Don't let that fool you--Living in Silence is headbanger heaven.
