I used to think that melafafone was the coolest sounding word in Hebrew, until I realized I was running around saying, 'cucumber.' Believe me, that sounds even more weird in Hebrew.

Please let me know what you think of my photography. Suggestions on technique and future localizations are always appreciated. As are tracks that compliment the photos.

8 is WINNING, but not WON.

<strike>I'm sorry your newspapers and statuses are prematurely misleading to you. However, the race for PROP 8, the ban on gay marriage proposition, has NOT been won. I repeat, NOT been won.

Let's consider the facts as they stand.

As of this morning there were 3 to 4 million votes left uncounted. This might seem like a lot, but at the time, around 9 million votes counted total. This would amount to a 30 - 40 % increase in counted votes.

As of noon, there was only a 400,000 margin between yes and no. This seems like a large number, but compare it to the fact above. Anything could happen.

Regardless, a four percent gap is not one to cry about. Honestly, I would be more upset if 8 passed 60-40, similar to the outcome of Prop 22 (which won with 61% of the popular vote).

So I wouldn't get too worried. Unless what you're actually upset about is the fact that it didn't FAIL with a LANDSLIDE. If that's the case, get ready for tough love: California is not the shiny, happy, perfect, liberal state you boast. Sure, we carry Democratic candidates, but --coming originally from a solidly red county-- we're mostly conservative. Our only two presidential affiliates, Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon, have both been in the Republican party. Still, for all these reasons, don't give up hope...

Statement by No on Prop 8 Campaign on Election Status

Roughly 400,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 - out of 10 million votes tallied.

Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted.

Given that fundamental rights are at stake, we must wait to hear from the Secretary of State tomorrow how many votes are yet to be counted as well as where they are from.

It is clearly a very close election and we monitored the results all evening and this morning.

As of this point, the election is too close to call.

Because Prop 8 involves the sensitive matter of individual rights, we believe it is important to wait until we receive further information about the outcome.

Geoff Kors & Kate Kendell
Executive Committee
NO on Prop 8</strike>

Alright, you can get mad now.. it's been called. It's passed... but the good news? Compare it to the Prop 22 results in 2000. We're a lot better off in only 8 years. This is good news.

Radio project help!

I've spoken to most of you about this little project I'm working on. I'm making station ID's for a radio production class I'm in. You won't be on the radio airwaves, but I'll share the file online when I'm done! Basically here's the plan:

1. Find a quiet place and a good quality phone (landline if you can manage it. If not, don't worry about it.)
2. Call 805.804.5605
3. Ignore the ringing, it's going to sound weird, but then again it's not a traditional phone line.
4. Leave a message.. use the script below. Get creative, ad lib, be funny. Go for it. HAVE FUN! You can use voices, go off script, or even fake names. Just so long as it's clear and understood.
5. I'm then able to take your recordings to a computer where I'll edit them into a logical and coherent message. The more you record, the more material I have to work with!
6. Please take some time out this weekend to work on this. Thanks!

Script:

Hey there / What's up / Hi
This is / My name's / I'm ____________
and I _______ (something about you.)

I am SoMA Radio.

Hey there, my name's Aaron and I'm always rocking out! I AM soma radio. Soma Santa Barbara.

What's up, I'm Michelle and I sing like there's no tomorrow. I am Soma Radio. Soma Santa Barbara.

Yo, this is Chris and I'm kind of hung over. I'm ...who am I? Soma Santa ...whatever.

Have fun with it! I'm sure you will.
Probably should take no more than 15 minutes. Thanks for your help!
