Sing What You Know is the new album from Home Of The Lame.

Moving on from the singer/songwriter reflections of 2005's Here Of All Places, Felix Gebhard, singer and...um, songwriter for Home Of The Lame has instead formed a band. Recruiting three of Hamburg's best, Christian Hake on drums, Ingo Schröder on guitar and Alex Böll on bass, the band played over 100 shows together last year, many of them on multiple tours with friends Element Of Crime, Maritime and Walking Concert. This shared experience fueled and inspired this year's great leap forward Sing What You Know.

With the dry sense of humor one might expect from Morrissey, the new album opens with "Old Songs". Gebhard sings "You can't stand the old songs anymore, they used to mean so much before". To sing what you know means to tell the truth and sometimes the truth hurts. Paying homage to sixties classics without aping them, "Old Songs" is a call to arms for anyone who still loves a good pop song or wants to write one.

With the ironically radio friendly track "The Radio" Gebhard points to his love of pop music with a back hand to the industry charged with delivering it to the people. While he sings "I see music as a form of art, you know" it's not from the point of view of the artist but from that of the listener. Like the great 19th century philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer once said "Only he who takes what he writes directly out of his own head is worth reading", Sing What You Know spells out and illustrates the point.

While questioning the motivations behind music, love and art is all fine and good, the album finds time to explore the forest through the trees, real life moments that are as they appear. "Maria" is an ode to love as natural and fleeting as migratory birds, summer feelings that follow you for life. With Bacharach inspired horns and the Hansa dance hall rhythm of Hake and Böll, "Maria" is a like a rowboat ride with your sweetheart on a perfect day.

Home Of The Lame have extensive touring plans for Sing What You Know. This band, or "quartet" as Felix describes it, was born on the road and like the E Street Band, are born to run. For fans of Here Of All Places don't expect the lone wolf and his acoustic guitar, or be overrun by an electric powered pride, 2008 is a year to rock!
