Microsoft to offer prizes for GamerScore

Finally after all this waiting we get some good news about gamerscores and achievements. A post on the Xbox News site now confirms that Microsoft and Old Spice have teamed up to give away various prizes based on your gamerscore. It's not about your current gamerscore it's about your gamerscore generated over the next year.

The contest officially starts on February 12th. You have to sign up at the Rewards Experience site first. Then whatever you get in gamerscore after the 12th is what goes towards your total. There are 3 different levels of prizes depending on how much gamerscore you received.

• Level 1 - 0 - 4,999


• Level 2 - 5000 - 9,999


• Level 3 - 10,000+

I suppose I will be shooting for 10,000+ in the coming year. With all the cool games coming out this spring, summer and fall. I'm sure it won't be hard to get that much gamerscore. The problem is that prizes are limited so I dunno if I will get in or not. At least I will have something to show for it if I do.

Def Jam Icon Demo

Hmm.. I was expecting this last week when we got the G.R.A.W.2 Demo. But after playing this game I think it's pretty fun. You get to play as a rapper that actually fights with music. The whole level is impacted by the music like a giant visualization for the song. After you knock down your opponent you can do a Turntable style move by holding the left trigger and rotating the analog sticks. This causes an explosion in the demo level, but I have seen other things happen in trailers for the game.

I really don't like rap music that much, but with this game it makes it better. Whenever you do a turntable move in sync with the song it causes the move to do more damage. It's a pretty cool game and hope that EA doesn't ruein this one. It just needs some tweaks and it will be well worth the money. The game however is missing some of the features from the old Def Jam games. By the way; This game looks beautiful.

Header Needs Some Work

In the coming days I will redo the header to look more modern and professional. This has been bothering me for a while. Plus I will be making a new logo that fits the style of the site a bit more. Other than that I have been a bit busy with school and working with a client.

I will keep tweaking this theme up until the next CSS Reboot. In the spring the whole site will be redesigned.

A Free Fon

What is Fon? Well, it's a tiny wireless router that you can use to share your Internet. It also makes a very nice travel router.

If you have a laptop or some other wireless device that you would like to use on the road then this is perfect. Also if you own a business or live in a busy place it can be a way to make quick cash. When you are setting it up you have a choice to be a 'Linus' or a 'Bill'. A Linus gives away their WiFi for free and can use other Fon access points for free. A bill gets money for their access point, but has to pay to use other Fons.

It's a good router and will get a lot of use while traveling. The only downsides are that it has an "Internet in" port and that's it. No wired router here. The other bad thing is that you have to connect to the router wirelessly to set it up. You have to log in through the router, which then connects to their site. I got this for free through the Fon 1 year page. You too can get one while supplies last.

All brushed Up

After switching hosts to A Small Orange I decided to finally fix the header. Nothing big, but the black box and white text got to be a little dull. It's now a grey box with a blue glowing bar at the bottom. Now if that isn't cool then I really dont know what is.

It's Valentines Day and there is no school. I just thought I would say that. There was really no reason to. Oh, and it's still snowing outside. I'm not keeping track of the weather. I just look outside and see. The sky is still grey so I guess it will keep snowing.

On Google's homepage it says "Googe" instead of Google. I thought they messed up on their logo when I saw it this morning but apparently this post on Digg proved me wrong. Apparently there was some poet named Googe that said something that has to do with Valentines Day. It's cool that Google went through that much trouble to come up with the picture for valentines day.

I am pretty bored right now so I guess I will go and play some more of the Crackdown demo. The game comes out in six days and I really can't wait.

Family Time

After spending most of my weekend away from the computer I'm glad to be back. My family came over for a visit and I really has no time for the Internet. I did check my email and that was about it. We all played Wii Sports and the Crackdown demo. (Only 2 days till Crackdown!!!)

Speaking of time away from the computer I found something cool on Digg called Shutdown Day. Apparently geeks like myself are supposed to try and pry themselves from their electronic extensions know as computers. I however am not participating in this because I have already spent over 24 hours away from my PC this weekend. If you are going to participate go ahead and leave a comment so I know if people are.

Umm... I really haven't done anything but play games and hung out around the house. It's wicked cold outside and I dare not go out there... except to get the mail. I would like to get the ATV out and go slide around the beach parking lot but I really don't want to get sick again.

NBA street is coming in the mail next so it should come this week. I just wanted to get achievements from that and I figured I may want to take a few breaks from Crackdown. So I will be busy in the next week with two games to play and probably something else to do.

Forza2 Website

A post on Major Nelson's blog yesterday gave a heads up to the community that the new Forza2 website has launched. The site lets us know what to expect when the game hits shelves this May. There's a lot of new features here including the ability to auction stuff you made for cash in the game as well as being able to set up tournaments via the site.

I'm also happy that like PGR3 they included a way to take screenshots and send them to the web. This is a feature that should be built into the Xbox360. Screenshots on the console it'self would be awesome. So would the ability to make videos and save them to a memory unit or USB drive. That probably won't happen, but the screenshots would be nice for reviewers and graphic artists alike.

There's scoreboards and stuff like that too. Unless they are doing something special with that then I couldn't really care less. If I wanted to look at stats all day I wouldn't be playing games. I am really looking forward to this game and hoping that they make it look nice. I have yet to see a racing game look as good as PGR3 on any system. Hopefully this will look a lot better. Judging from the screenshots this one just needs a little more time in the oven.

Crackdown Review

Crackdown just came out five days ago and I am already done with the campaign. This is the most fun I have ever had on a console game. Other than Counter-Strike I can't say I have ever been more addicted to a game in my life. The game is fun and keeps you playing but read on and you will see that there are a few problems.

Crackdown is comprised of four main islands. The first island that you start out on is the home of the agency this is the crime busting team you are working for. The agency itself is a huge tower that overlooks all the other islands with it's large res spotlights. The three other islands are each populated by it's own gang. There's Los Muertos, The Volk and the Shai-Gen. I recommend staying on Los Muerto's island for a good bit. You need to be a pretty tough agent to venture out to the other gang populated islands. Woah

Yeah I know it's been a while. Some things have just been happening lately. I have moved everything back over to DreamHost since they released thier new control panel and since I was close to my quotas with ASO. The blog and all my sites are now on one host.

The company is coming along fine and we should be up and running by May. I have a lot of people helping get things up and running and I hope this all goes well. I don't know if this site will get a new theme by the CSS reboot but if I have time I will.

I'll try to keep this post short but you know how that goes. I've been playing some 360 lately and got my hands on the 1000 pint College Hoops 2k6. I still have a few more to go in that then I will get back into Crackdown. I'm not sure what game to get next. I think I'll just save up and get Guitar Hero 2.

That said I need to get strings on mine... maybe I'll get that done sometime soon.

Google Results Redesigned

I don't know about you, but any design changes by google seem to get noticed a lot more than they should. They have added a gradient bar to the top of the page and sent all the words flying over to the left side of the page. I seem to like it because it seems easier to use. But other people think not. What do you think? It may take a few days before you can see it. You can try clearing out your cookies because that seemed to work for me.
