There is a local sculpter here in Houston that stores some of his work outside of his studio year-round.It's a really neet-o place because you can go there pretty much at anytime of day or night and view these big president heads, as well as his latest Beattles" sculpture. It is tucked away in a warehouse district, so stumbling across it would be hard, which makes it even more special. There is somebody allways up or coming and going in the loft-workplaces nearby, and as long as you "behave" people could care less that you are there to just see "the heads"......I have been out there at 2am in the fog, and it's magical....( ok, maybe I had been drinking...)

I forgot to mention these things about the artist......he's 81 now, still working, has major pieces in downtown houston and across the country........here's some more info I just came across about him to help you..............
You'd think a man who'd just celebrated his 80th birthday the weekend before would be relatively easy to pin down. Not David Adickes. He not only looks twenty years younger, he keeps up a pace that many half his age would find difficult to maintain. He graciously worked me into his busy schedule on Friday, the 26th of January and again on Tuesday, February 6th, 2007 for an interview at his expansive studio/warehouse near downtown Houston, Texas. Thankfully, they turned out to be a beautiful, sunny days that allowed for outdoor pictures for the first time in several weeks. A good thing. Because when it comes to sculpture, David doesn't like to think small. In fact, he constructs artwork on a scale that would intimidate a lot of architects and engineers. Quite a feat for someone who considers himself a painter first, and a self-taught, figure-it-out-as-you-go sculptor second. And, after chatting with him awhile, I have a feeling that it just may be that same remarkable sense of curiosity, wonder and "I can do that" attitude that keeps him so young and spry. Hmmm. Maybe there's more than just an art lesson in this for all of us.

these are amazing...as is the story of the artist. thank god there wasn't one of "w" (or was there???)...the temptation to do something rude might have proven almost overpowering...

WOW! Those are certainly larger than life! I can't believe he's 81 and still doing this. I hope I can muster the strength to get out of bed when I'm that age.
Heather has put a bug in my ear that we should take a day trip and drive down to Houston from Chandler while we're in Texas (some time between the 22nd and 25th) if you're up for a meetup?
