(Three Weeks Later):
Last night, the night of the day I posted my first blog about Adam called 'Adventure', I was downtown again on the Sixteenth Street Mall hanging out with some friends. I stepped into Virgin records to keep warm as it was a chilly night. Some more friends spotted me inside and came in and we started to talk story.
Little to my expectation a friend excitedly burst out, "Dude, guess who I saw??"
I was shocked by his excitement. "Um....who?" I thought to myself before voicing it aloud.
"That dude walking across the US! I was driving on south on I-25 and just when I was coming up on Lincoln Avenue there he was walking on the side of the highway."
We were all profoundly affected by this young man, so much so that after 4 weeks we were still excited to talk about our chance encounter with him. I can say that he reminded me the most in such a short time of my hero Jesus than anyone else. Adam made it to Boulder I assumed, and now three weeks later was going South to the Springs just as he said he would. I asked my friend if Adam still had his coat with him and he said no, just the sweatshirt he was wearing that night under the coat. I wouldn't be surprised if he gave it to someone in need. I was both surprised at the news and grateful that he was still alright. Okay, I'll be honest. I was ecstatic. I had been praying for him. I wonder when I will next hear of him or see him. It was Henry David Thoreau who said:
"I went into the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
Though Adam did not go into the woods like Thoreau himself, he is discovering what it means to live, truly live under the roof of Heaven with the provision of the table's Head as his source. He is learning a lot of things we only hunger for but I believe we will fall short of in this life lacking such opportunity as he has taken hold of. I thank God he is alright and thought you should know.
Keep praying, it's working.
