About

It's not that there isn't art in Nashville. There is. It's just imaginary art. It's hanging on the walls in coffee shops and showing on the screen of the Belcourt. It's being played in the music halls of East Nashville. It's spilling over the river. The cafes are bursting at the roof. And like a parade, this imagination is about to come marching, banners held high. It's bubbling and boiling. You've felt it. Over your third cup of coffee, you wonder why you can't sit still.

We assure you, it's not the caffeine.

You lay ceiling faced at night, and wonder why you can't get to sleep. You paint, you sing, you write, you play, and wonder if anyone is listening. Where are these neo-beats who are supposed to be defying the culture? Where is this revolutionary movement of starry eyed troubadours, paint soaked idealists, smoky-voiced players? You've imagined them. You've day-dreamed of the community, the counter-culture, the undercurrent. You've seen it in your brush strokes, the underground erupting. You've read it in your own words. You've sung it from the depths of your soul. It's all imaginary. And so are you. You are an imaginary person. Part of an imaginary movement...
