Last week I got to thinking… I bet you can convert an old scanner into a light box and use it to expose silk screens. Yes, you can turn one into a light box. Check out Matt Sanfilippio’s blog for an example. But can you rig this new light box to work with the YUDU Mesh Screens?
In April I posted about the $300 YUDU silkcreen station. My theory was that it’s sort of a overpriced DIY product targeting the whole online etsian craft community. It’s been posted that within the Etsy forums that best bang for you buck it to buy a unit and then buy bulk silkcreen supplies to save money.
I’m convinced that it’s possible to save a little more if you have an old scanner laying around. Why because the YUDU is essentially a pimped out scanner unit with extra features. If you don’t care about the built in dryer, I’m willing to bet that once you convert the scanner into a light box, the next step would be to drill some sort of pegs into the scanner to align with the YUDU mesh screen holes & Yudu T-shirt Platen.
I’m not sure if this works, but I wanted to through the idea out there. If anyone decides to try this please leave a comment on my blog and let me know if it works. Good luck. Maybe I can convince my husband to help try to execute this.
