Going back to my roots for inspiration.

On the Easter weekend I watched "Halloween Resurrection". My wife was quick to point out the irony AFTER the event. What can I say, we live in a Buddhist country. I had forgotten about Easter completely.

Anyways, we watched it with the "Director's commentary" track on.

It was really inspiring and it reminded me of my childhood. I know that sounds wierd, but my Mum always let us watch horror movies with her. I saw "Evil Dead", "Cujo", most of the "Nightmare on Elm Streets" and "Friday the 13th"'s when I was just a kid.

My Mum always made sure she said two things.

1/ It's just a movie, noone is really getting hurt.
2/ Don't tell your father I let you watch this.

I think I need to pull out some of the old favourites to reignite the inspiration. Halloween Resurrection was just great to see. It hits all the beats. Keeps you entertained right through.

Time to go back to where it all began I think.

Setting a goal.

I rarely write if I am not feeling inspired. That has been alot lately.

I need to change this.

I really dig the "Creative Screenwriting Magazine" interviews with Jeff Goldsmith and while I am a bit behind in listening to the interviews, they remain quite useful. I save the ones I am prticularly impressed with.

I am currently about halfway through the Diablo Cody interview. Interesting that she doesn't write if she has writer's block. Her answer was something along the lines of "I only write when I feel like it".

My first thought was that that was kinda cool. I want to be in that position. Then I started to think I can't afford that position. I have to earn the right to get to do that. So I might actually need a goal.

The otehr thing I was thinking is "I need a pseudonym".

Anyways, what kind of goal would suit me?

I heard M.Night Shymalan say in an interview once he writes 6 pages a day. Good, bad or awful, he turns out 6 pages a day, once he knows the basic idea.

There is two trains of thought here. A/ I need to make my writing career take off twice as quick as does, so I should write 12 pages a day! and B/ I don't really have the time and alot of the time lack the inspiration to write that much, so I should maybe aim for 3 pages a day.

I really don't know what I will choose yet, but I think it is definitely time for me to choose a goal.

I think I might let my attention span drift off to my pseudonym first.

Writing a Comedy

I am finding it difficult to write a comedy. I feel like it goes on and on with no jokes. Then at other times, I feel like the jokes are overkill.

I think the best thing I can do is write the structure of the story, then collaborate with someone on getting the right amount of "funny", put in. It's just frustrating sometimes when you aren't putting out what you want.

I thought I would put down some of my thoughts about the movies I see.

For 10000BC, I was quite impressed with the effects, but like alot of movies lately, it was rather underwhelming. I felt like the story was quite limited. The script struggled and the half russian accents they tried on, (to sound 'primitive'), just didn't work.

So like my thoughts on "Jumper", (which I won't bother to post here), they had a great concept, and great filmmaking, but the story and characters suffered.

I am working on a new script. Let's call it "Throwing Scissors", as a working title.

Being a comedy, I find it difficult to be in the right mood to write.
I really do love the site www.triggerstreet.com as far as screenwriting feedback goes. The problem is though, in order to get someone to slog through your crappy first feature, you have to earn credits by reading other crappy first features, and some of them make it really difficult.
I just read part of a script, ( that I am going to delete the assignment ), that is so freaking confusing that I just couldn't go on. It was only one paragraph too!!
