phreaky phenomenon

17 comments | posted Jul 23

Tell me if this ever happens to you.. You're reading something and as you read a word or, if you're lucky, a whole phrase, you hear that same word or phrase uttered on TV, radio, in a song, or someone talking nearby.

This happens to me

ALL

THE

TIME.

Is this weird? Meh. Who cares if it is? It's freaking cool (if not a little freaky) and I get such a thrill every time it happens.

I just had a lucky phrase moment.. Just now, I was listening to Over and Under by Natalie Walker (which I sent to some of yas) and as I was reading someone's Twitter, I simultaneously heard and read "this is the last time"..

and HOLY CRAP! I kid you not it happened again as I was typing that. Now you're CONVINCED I'm crazy, huh! I deny nothing.

I guess I just have remarkable timing?

I'll be returning to my home planet now.

kthxbye

;)

EDIT-- I just remembered something as I was reading my post again. I was in TJ Maxx earlier in the evening and one of my favorite songs by Keane played while I was there.. I'll give you one guess as to its title: "This Is The Last Time" . Is there a message I'm supposed to be getting?!

This never happens to me

Mike Branski says:

Can't say it happens that often for me, but it's always a "whoa..." moment when it does. Your "lucky phrase" is a little ominous! x_x

The decent American says:

synchronicity

Synchronicity is an explanatory principle, according to its creator, Carl Jung. Synchronicity explains "meaningful coincidences," such as a beetle flying into his room while a patient was describing a dream about a scarab. The scarab is an Egyptian symbol of rebirth, he noted. Therefore, the propitious moment of the flying beetle indicated that the transcendental meaning of both the scarab in the dream and the insect in the room was that the patient needed to be liberated from her excessive rationalism. His notion of synchronicity is that there is an acausal principle that links events having a similar meaning by their coincidence in time rather than sequentially. He claimed that there is a synchrony between the mind and the phenomenal world of perception.

I ABSOLUTELY love this stuff when it happens............it makes life SO MUCH more interesting.

that's an interesting concept. it reminds me of when you're at the eye doctor and they flip the little viewer and it goes from blurry to clear.. but in your ears. haha

The Problem of Payne says:

It's never happened to me simultaneously but always seem to notice the phrase used in the book on a tv show or something.

haha. WOW. I've never experienced such a thing. The only thing that happens to me from time to time is when I'm thinking of something (I usually brew over a thought) and I hear it here and there, and it just strengthens that thought or idea on my mind.

The only real weird thing I've experienced was when I was a kid--my bro & I were playing with these toy animals, and we both saw this hand appear behind the bedroom door and throw a little cow towards us... There was no one else at home than my parents. They were having tea in the kitchen. We never figured what this was about.

yes - happens to me too. It feels so weird when it does (though I suppose it's bound to happen from time to time but still seems freaky).
Not to do with hearing things the same, but I'm sure i mentioned somewhere about my new debit card - I'd forgotten the pin and had to reapply, and when the card arrived and i have the option to change the pin they issue to any one i choose for myself, I checked it and it was THE SAME number that i use for all my pins - and i don't believe anyone who says that they knew the number i'd been using etc. this wasn't even linked to my usual bank.

no it isn't!
haha - I'm not THAT stoopid!

(and it's not 1234 either..)

and I'll often be saying something if the TV is on in the background, and say the exact same couple of words in sync with whoever is on there - and it does stop you in your tracks...

So totally not on the same level of phenomenon, but I noticed that whenever I am discussing any particular episode of a TV show that I have seen in the past, that specific episode will air again within a few days. I'll be flipping through the channels and happen to come across it. Perhaps a glitch in the matrix?

not exactly like that but yes...
@13 i was going to the library early evening with my sis and her friend who had a license... after laura came to pick us up... when we'd driven about 3 blocks i had a weird mental flash of a horrible accident where the car was flipped on it's roof... pulling each other out of the broken windows and shit...
and then we got in a one car rainy accident about 10 minutes later...

but lots of other stuff too...
