"Go By" is off Elliott Smiths´ album New Moon, released May 2007. Most of the songs on the album was songs produced during Elliott´s years with Kill Rock Stars, 1994-1997, in which I find to be his most fabulous period.

Go on and parade and fade
Hit the scene and slow
Spending all your time with some girl
you'll never get to know
Wound uptight
dressed all in white
some ?
Blowing out to drift
need you even here

You live up in your head
scared of every little noise
Someone always breaking in accidently
using nothing but their voice
Shrill and small echo down the hall repeating pet names
sitting in your eyes, you're only passing by

Go by
Go by
Go by
Go by

Someones in the way pretty words and inside slurs
All the things they have to say
to perform the work that they've rehearse it's a waste of time
I put it behind me once and for all
and let the time decline if the problem wasn't mine

Go by
Go by
Go by
Go by
Go by
Go by
Go by
Go by

Unfortuntely, I couldn´t find the exact version Elliott sings on New Moon, but you ought to have a listen to an earlier version off sweetadeline.net:

"So Come Back, I'm Waiting"

The post of today is dedicated to "So come back, I'm waiting", by Okkervil River. My endeavour of highlighting the language as supreme form of experiencing goes on with this great piece of text. Their dedication to the written word is outstanding.

A black sheep boy revolves over canyons and waterfalls.
A black sheep boy dissolves in syringe or in shower stall.

He says
"There's plenty of time to make you mine tonight,
there's plenty of time to make you mine."

He says
"There's plenty of ways to know you're not dying,
all right.
Hell, there's plenty of light still left in your eyes."

A black sheep boy grows horns,
breathing smoke through his microphone.
The airwaves stretch and they groan, bleeding, birthing his black diapason.

Says
"There's plenty of things to wear when you come to me,
every color of sleeve to be rolled.
Millions of rolling eyes that still cling to me.
Every language of king is concerned.
So why
did you bawl
from the spell of some old holy song
some liar laughed as he composed,
some liar I loved to control?"

A black sheep boy dissolves
in hot cream, in sweet moans,
in each dead bed and empty home,
in each seething bacterium.

Killing softly and serial,
he lifts his head, handsome, horned, magisterial.
He's the smell of the moonlight wisteria.
He's the thrill of the abecedarian.
See the muddy hoofprints where he carried you?

And there's plenty of ways to claim his crimes tonight,
and there's plenty of things to do on his dime.
And there's plenty of ways to wear his hide tonight,
you've got yours, I've got mine.
You've got yours, I've got mine.
So why
did you flee?
Don't you know you can't leave his control
only call all his wild works your own?
So come back and we'll take them all on.
So come back to your life on the lam.
So come back to your old black sheep man.

Says
"I'm waiting on hoof and on hand.
I'm waiting, all hated and damned.
I'm waiting, I snort and I stamp.
I'm waiting, you know that I am,
calmly waiting to make you my lamb"

"Hung Over As The Queen In Maida Vale" 2 months ago

I would like to express my love for words and sentences. The vulnerability of one single sentence. The passion of a single word. I´ll try to express as much as possible with less. In lack of being a poet or writer, I am going to try to use my visual senses to transform expressions, feelings and experiences into something tangible.

For the sake of starting, here´s a monologue from "Hung Over As The Queen In Maida Vale", performed by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Never officially released, but first heard on John Peel Sessions in 1999:

...prepared in innocence to meet our king of glory
and so we have this
you have it in your secret windows
and you're understanding to understand it and to bring it forth
it takes minute detail
it takes a holy life
it takes emotions
it takes dedication
it takes dedication
it takes a death
and only god can allow it
and you couldn't do it if you're not the seed of god
and so the path through the great corridors
these are corridors unto his perfection
that is which the prophet and the oarman summoned has penetrated
that through this great sea of blackness
that i penetrated through these corridors
and i went through that last segment
where i went through these dark serpentines
i passed through that corridor
where they sat
where they are
and when you penetrate to the most high god
you will believe you are mad
you will believe you've gone insane
but i tell you if you follow the secret window
and you die to the ego nature
you will penetrate this darkness
oh yes there's many a man or woman
that's been put in the insane asylum
when this has happened to them
and they're sitting there today, people think they're insane
but they saw something that's real
and they see it when they're on drugs
the only thing is they see it
not through the light of god, and the way i show you
i show you to see it through the light of god
and the understanding of god
because when you see the face of god you will die
and there will be nothing left of you
except the god-man, the god-woman
the heavenly man, the heavenly woman
the heavenly child
there will be terror under this day of night
there will be a song of jubilee waiting for your king
there will be nothing you will be looking for in this world
except for your god
this is all a dream
a dream in death

and so i went through that window
and the tower of hell and the great serpentines of the highest order
and i went through that when i showed you chart #3
the question is asked and learned and someone who....
