Metcalfe's Law in Reverse

In college, my senior thesis was based on Metcalfe's law (a network's value is equal to the number of it's users squared). This theory originally related to Ethernet and telecommunications technologies. The classic example being that a fax machine is useless if only …

Why So Slow Around Here Lately?

Over the past few months, Not Too Stale has become quite the opposite. The frequency of my posts here have been reduced to a slow crawl. I can legitimately use excuses like being busy with work and the holidays, but the primary reason is that some of my posts have a …

Google Maps to the Rescue

Because Verizon decided to be greedy with the GPS in the Blackberry Pearl (which, along with many other reasons, has made me suspicious of their recent "Any App, Any Device" announcement), users must pay for Verizon's own VZ Navigator if they want any map positioning …

Telling the Truth

Without intending to throw so much love towards 37signals tonight, I feel this is worth mentioning. Over the last few hours, I was unable to access the 37signals website in addition to our Highrise and Basecamp accounts (both 37signals web-based products). Here was …

15 Lateral Win - Wow!

Having once played football against (and losing to) Millsaps College on this very field, this win holds a special place in my heart. It's great they made ESPN too. Not my alma mater, but these two teams do play in the same conference.

Gmail Gets IMAP, But No Love for GAFYD

Gmail IMAP

Looks like IMAP is making it's way into Gmail, which is exciting and long overdue. Great news for those who use desktop apps to manage their Gmail. Now changes you make in your desktop app are reflected in your Gmail account.

Although, still no love for it's Google …

Wireless: Intervention for Progress

Walt Mossberg on how the government needs to intervene and free the mobile phone from the carriers death grip:

A shortsighted and often just plain stupid federal government has allowed itself to be bullied and fooled by a handful of big wireless phone operators for …

Touch Media Wall

Touch Interactive Media Wall

Ever since I got my hands on the new iPod touch, I have been in love with multi-touch technology. If you are like me and enjoy touch screen technology, and have an extra $100k in your pocket (unlike me), you can pick one of these babies up at Neiman Marcus.

Nerd Tax

Bill Maher on the iPhone price cut:

"Early adopters always pay a premium. "Early adopters" being a business term meaning dipsh*ts who stand in line for 6 hours...for a freaking phone. It's not a price cut, it's a repeal on the nerd tax."

"If you didn't have to be the …

iPod touch = iPhone for Vermonters

...and for all others not willing to be chained to AT&T in order to use the Apple iPhone.

On the downside, why does the iPod touch not include Mail.app or Google Maps, as the iPhone does? It would also be great to see the 16GB of flash memory boosted to 32GB soon.
