Diversifying

TM and I did a lot of different activities for the 4th of July. We started out at 5WITS Tomb attraction- they take a group of people into a fake Egyptian tomb and you have to solve puzzles to get out. It was like a live action video game. Cute and fun. Then lunch. Then we walked about half of the Freedom Trail, watched various street performers, saw Transformers (a Michael Bay film that doesn't completely disappoint- it must be the end of the world- but not Armageddon; that was a Bay film that did disappoint), then dinner with a stranger in China Town, then the nation's biggest 4th of July pyrotechnic display. Pretty long day... very varied... very hurried. I even ran into someone I went to high school with. Imagine that- running into a classmate from northern Vermont on the streets of Boston. It's like when I ran into those guys in Costa Rica from the same town I was living in at the time. Life. Crazy.

I should be sleeping. I've been having trouble lately. I'm hooked up on pain killers right now- I shouldn't be typing. I should be sleeping. Did I mention I should be in bed? I should...

I haven't been doing much in terms of writing in this diary but I have been diversifying its functions and my overall web presence. I joined Orkut, Virb, Dodgeball, and finally Facebook where I found this really sweet Korean girl I went to high school with. I had done searches on MySpace and Friendster before trying to find her with no luck. I haven't spoken to her for 5 years now. I secretly had a crush on her- I didn't have the self esteem nor courage to do anything about it and I was extremely afraid to commit to anyone that would be leaving for college after graduation. Everyone went worlds away after high school. I was still dealing with the scar of losing everyone I cared about when my family moved to New Hampshire from Florida- especially Amy who as I've written was my long time childhood "crush" and first feeling of real "loss". Anyhow, I hope I hear back from her as we were good friends and she was one of the few genuinely kind people I've met in my life. I bet she got a degree, a husband, and is buying a house and all that great stuff. I'm renting a room, swearing off dating, and figuring out what I should go to school for. I think I was further ahead 3 years ago. Oh well, none of it matters right now- I really should be sleeping.

The World to James Cobalt

One of the things I added to my diary is a map with my notations; think of a huge globe covered in post it notes- each note relevant to the area and my experience there. Some notes refer to diary entries, others photos, some both. I only have a few markers on it right now but I'll continue to add to it over time. Eventually I'll have a location based mosaic of my life. Talk about organized. Too cool. I put the link in the top menu.

Cordon Who? Country Blues? Paralox and Paradox?

Tired. Late. I've been staying awake for no reason. Just avoiding sleep. TM and I cooked HUGE dinner today. Big production- like a movie I would have been the director and TM would have been the producer. Started with minestrone... followed by rolls, spaghetti pomodoro, and then on top of spinach leaves laid an incredibly juicy chicken breast- stuffed with goat cheese mixed with thyme, rosemary, parsley, chopped onions, mushrooms, and lemon juice- the breast topped with a mushroom and tomoato broth and lightly peppered. Cabernet Sauginion and a fresh chocolate chip cookie for desert. I almost threw up. It was fantastic. Third big fancy meal in one week. I dont think I'm about to make a habit though. TM saw Edward Scissorhands for the first time (best soundtrack ever!) and now we retire to our respective bedrooms.

Or rather, he did and I am avoiding sleep for no apparent reason. I dont like falling to sleep. Once I'm there I dont mind, but I almost fear the process of getting there; it's so hard for me. I cant just crawl in bed and turn off. My mind doesn't shut up. Its like 30 minutes before I fall asleep I turn into Kathy from the newspaper comics. YAK YAK YAK YAK YAK in my head. I've gotten better over the years- it used to take me 1 to 2 hours to fall asleep. I'm down to about 30 minutes which is pretty good. Still I'm jealous of my roomie who can almost fall asleep standing up (I've seen this!!!). There's so much I want to do! How can one sleep?! Its like being dead for a bit- you loose this part of your life you're never going to get back. But if you dont do it, the rest of your life wont be livable- a nightly paradox.

In other goings ons I have rediscovered Absolutely Fabulous and watched the entire series. I'm bag to saying things like "blimey" and "boot of the car" in my day to day english without even thinking about it. I like getting weird expressions from people.

I've got a fantastic New Years Resolution I'll write about soon. This one is going to be a toughy. BIG DEAL.

Strange turn of character for me; I've started listening to country music. I've spent my entire life hating country music- why in the past 2 months has it begun to grow on me? Is it I who has changed? Or is it the music? I think its a bit of both. The older hook-less extra-twangy songs still make me wince, but Sara Evans and Rascal Flatts have been keeping me company all day. I'm getting tired with the current pop crunk music. It's too predictable. Chick sings melody, thug bridges with rap, chick sings melody. Country is new enough to me that I haven't found all its trademarks yet.

I REALLY should be in bed....

On Its Head

Is James dead? No. His web authoring computer did experience a complete meltdown at the same time he was updating his server- meaning the website was broken and unusable and it could not be fixed since the files needed were inaccessible. Except for the hard drives all the computer components were destroyed in the major electrical surge- a surge to which I have only my carelessness to blame. A new computer would be needed but could not be afforded. Not until my car would behave itself. $800 later and my vehicle gave me enough time to get a new computer together, but the 64bit Vista OS was not compatible with the hardware. Or as I would later come to find after 20+ hours of troubleshooting; the hardware was not compatible with the OS. A bios upgrade fixed everything and I am slowly on my way to PC and website recovery. In the past 5 months my whole world has been turned on its head. Substantial life altering events have taken place. Major grief, joy, traveling half way around the world, and a bitchy Honda which as I wirte is in the shop... again. I also currently do not have a telephone. No phone AND no car. Does life want to take my belt and dignity too?! More on all of this and so much more in the comming days and weeks.
