sometimes i feel like i am in the sea, at the very bottom of the depths. i can feel the weight of all that water engulfing me. it is just bearable, but it is no comfortable thing. it is the constant, full forced pressure of everything above trying to crush you, trying to make you as insignificant as possible. for the most part i am alone. i see the world and everything in it, but i am no where near it. it's like looking at a map, knowing something is there, but not being able to see it in front of you because it's not really five inches away. that world is just added weight to my burden. i move slowly. i pass the time counting the angelfish until they blur into one color. i build my sand kingdoms until they are eroded by the tide. sometimes i have a friend join me briefly. another weary soul brought under by the currents. we make shadow puppets on the reefs.
pan's labyrinth, brick, kiss kiss bang bang, star wars, gattaca, dark city, dune, anything with cary grant... you know, this list will get rather long. i pretty much enjoy most films that show some imagination. that, and i really love older films. anything from cary grant to vincent price with a bit of peter sellers mixed in. i love old horror and science fiction. my heart is always happy with fantasy. i love jim henson. i love imagination and creativity. i esp
i love stories of all kinds, and the history of story. i feel that the imagination is one of the most important gifts we are given, and that the nurturing of that gift is essential to life, even as important as the air we breathe. i know this is all rather broad, but this list would literally go on forever. so, to assuage the curious, here is the general idea... neil gaiman, dr. seuss, pop-up books, the grimm brothers, harry potter, the count of monte cristo, raphael sabatini, raymond chandler, dan brown (god love him), bradbury, ender's game, where the wild things are, pretty much anything to do with the history of piracy, children's literature, and pretty much anything to do with faerie, folklore, and mythology.
