Jane Hay and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

7/7 was a very unlucky day for me. because it was an odd day of an odd month, of course. not one catastrophic event, but rather an endless string of irritating occurrences...

it was rainy and overcast and hot and humid out. first thing in the morning. no birds chirping or sunshine.
probably, because it's dark and rainy and probably because I hit snooze three-too-many times, i wake up late which puts me in a bitter mood, which sets the tone for the day. I rush my morning routine and skip enough steps to put me exactly 15 minutes behind schedule. jump in the car and realize that i need to get gas before driving to work. i check my wallet to make sure my one and only credit card is in there and it is not. super. run back into the house and check the jeans i was wearing the day before. the card isn't in the pockets. forgetting that I had worn the other jeans in the later part of the day, I search in vain for 5 minutes. Lou finds my card in the other jeans.

now a half hour late to start my day, I head out. i go to the cheaper, but slightly out of the way, gas station and their card readers are broken. great! get goin'. get gas. get on with it.

i make up time by speeding. and skipping Wawa for breakfast. i arrive 5 minutes late to work. I grab my bag, my bottle of water and my Nantucket Nectars Big Cranberry, which at this point is the only thing I have to look forward to this awful morning, which is the only thing keeping me sane. the water and Cranberry juice bottles are 'sweating' severely because of a little known phenomenon called 'condensation'. it happens when you take cold stuff from the fridge and expose it to warm, humid, terrible morning, air. because i'm rushing to get into work and because both bottles are large and awkwardly shaped and because they're dripping wet, the Nantucket Nectar Big Cranberry slips from my hands and crashes to the ground. the juice is now splashed all over the parking lot, all over my grey pants, and there's glass all over that I need to pick up, IN THE RAIN. i get that all sorted and make it into work.

get into work, open the file I need to print out for proofing and realize a catastrophic error that would take way too long to explain here. in short: I was supposed to have this thing printed and handed off by 10am and instead was working to fix the problem all day, until 7pm.

because there's no time to spare, I eat lunch from my desk. and because the delivery places only take cash i get $2.50 worth of gourmet vending cousine.

get home. chill. start working on a project and spill acrylic paint water all over my bedroom floor.

fantastic.
