Summer Camp 2007

I have been out of touch with technology for the past week. I was at camp with the Pipeline kids. This was my 6th summer at camp! Phew. I think I maybe getting too old for it. HA--never!

It was a good week. I had 8 wonderfully sweet girls. I was so blessed to be able to spend the week with them. They were all beautifully unique. We had lots of fun going on many hikes, two days at the lake, and many adventures with the "locals" (aka critters). It is an exhausting week, but I would not trade it for anything.

A New Experience

So I am having a new experience this week. I am trying to sell my car!!

I've never had to do this before....my first car was totaled in a hit & run accident...my second car was sold to a friend for $500. This time I am having the WHOLE car selling experience...placing the ad, fielding calls, showing the car, lowering the price, etc. As of yesterday things were looking really good. Appeared to have a buyer. Said he would call me today, and would have the money to me today or Tuesday. As of tonight, I haven't heard from him. I've called twice, and in my book three times in one day is stalking!

I do have two other potential buyers, but neither has come to see the car because I thought it was a done deal So, now I don't know what to do.
How long do I give the guy to get back to me before I move on?? Ahhhh drama! Any advice? Thanks.

Got a fix?

Earlier this week my thoughts were on suffering. Today they are on brokenness. I feel surrounded from all sides with brokenness. Broken cars, broken people, broken hearts, etc. My immediate response is to look for the quick fix. But, I don't think that is the most appropriate response. I can think of several verses that speak of brokenness, one being... "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise." Psalm 51:17

I think being broken puts us in a place of total dependence on God. We must trust God financially. We must trust Him for healing and forgiveness. It can only come from Him and not ourselves. The state of brokenness does not feel good...at all...but, really it's the best place to be.

Suffering

For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on Him, but also to suffer for Him...

I was reading this verse tonight, and meditating on it. Suffering? What does that really mean for a Christian in the 21st century...in America? Then I was thinking about me. How do I suffer? I think I suffer from myself...my sin. I suffer from stress, worry, and self-dependence. But, I think what I suffer from is consequence of my sin. Not suffering for Christ.

Any thoughts?

I pledge allegiance...

...you know how the rest goes! When I was a child in elementary school, I was exempt from saying the pledge allegiance each morning. I was given the choice not to say it as I was not a US citizen. Yes, that's what I said--not a US citizen. It's this fun little secret about me that not many people know. Let me explain...

You see, I was born in the south of England. No- my parents didn't just "happen" to be in England when I was born. And no, my father was not in the military. My British heritage goes back centuries--literally. How did I get here? When I was two year old my dad's company transfered him. It was supposed to just be for two years, but in that time period my parents got divorced and as they say, the rest is history.

Even though I have been a "permanent resident" of the US for the last 30 years (yikes!), I have not been highly motivated to apply for citizenship.
But, these days you can have dual citizenship so for me that is the best of both worlds.

So, I have decided to apply for US citizenship. I have one minor obstacle before me--the $400 application fee. I know I know!! A friend of mine suggested I ask all my friends to give to the "help-make-Janie-a-citizen-fund." I dont' know, but I see a few garage sales in my future...
