I saw a lecture last night with documentary photographer Scott Houston on the topic "The Art of Documentary" and it has gotten me thinking about quite a few things relating to photography as an art form.
I've never considered myself a documentary photographer, but in many ways, I think I have some of those sensibilities. I like shooting landscapes areas and locations as if I'm capturing a specific moment in time—sometimes that moment is real and other times artificial.
In a photo like this, I like to think it has a certain feel and emotion that perhaps is more important than the technical qualities. I like how this photo feels like it was taken by someone just passing through this industrial town very quickly.
