Singer/songwriters are everywhere these days, but how many of them have competed nationally at Meat Judging and Evaluation? Though one may be tempted to guess none of them, Jason Harwell would be quick to correct you. He says, “I had reached the peak of my athletic abilities – sitting the bench and chasing foul balls in the parking lot – and thought that maybe it was time to seek greener pastures, so to speak.” Growing up on a cattle farm in rural Georgia, he need look no further than his local Future Farmers of America. Soon after, Jason found himself in a giant meat locker in Kansas City placing carcasses in order from best to worst. “It was a wonderful experience. Meat judging isn’t something you letter in, I suppose, but I got to wear a hard hat and miss a week of school. It’s not what most people do in high school, but it seemed to fit me,” Jason says.
Doing things differently has been a hallmark of Jason’s life. Now 28, Jason has long since given up the glitz and glamour of meat judging for a career in music, and he continues to take the road less traveled. He says, “but I just couldn’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t truly living the kind of life I was intended to live. The more I thought about it, the more I had to find out what that meant”
February is short on days, long on heart Jan 29, 2009
February is a big month to be so short, particularly this year. On February 2nd, news reporters give groundhogs like Punxsutawney Phil in PA and General Beauregard Lee down here in the Atlanta area their annual fifteen seconds of fame while I become officially one …
The Rentals' "Songs About Time" project Jan 16, 2009
It's no secret that I've been spending the bulk of my music creation time with The Warm Fuzzies, and it's no surprise that a large sonic influence on what we've done to this point has been the music of The Rentals.
Though I never would have thought that Matt Sharp …

So I just wanted to say that, wow, you are so underrated it's unbelievable. You're literally my favorite singer. hands down. All of your albums are great. It's insane. I don't get how good you are, and am so disappointed when friends haven't heard of you. I wish I could see you perform live. Hope you head over to the Bay Area sometime for a show.

Hi Jason! I enjoyed your perfomance yesterday at YACS! You did an great job! I am the old lady that asked you for the hoopdi song. Can you email it to me at angelgduke@yahoo.com. I am anxious for my husband to hear it. It was funny you sang that. I had just had the same conversation with my son that morning about the the old truck he would be driving when he turns 16 in a year. Thanks for the laughs!

Jason! I'm a fan of yours up in Michigan. People ask me who my favorite artist is and I always have to say "Jason Harwell.... but not many have heard of him". I'd like you to know that your cd "Alive in the Fall" has been a permanent CD in my car for the last couple of years, and that your music has been a soundtrack to many significant life events. Is it sad to say that one of my life goals is to hear you play live? I think you should do me a favor and get yourself up to Michigan. Thanks :) -B PS. I have a friend who's in the Czech Republic who heard the song "Can I wait?" on my iPod and figured out how to play it. That was pretty cool.
