I can remember one night driving home from the city on the NJ Turnpike, rain was coming down sideways and it was hot as hell out. I fumbled around looking for something to play, I just put in the first thing I could grab and it wound up being Greetings From Asbury Park. I immediately put on this song, lit a cigarette and cracked a window to let some of that steamy air in. Sometimes you can hear a song 50 times and then one day for whatever reason it hits you hard. For me it was on a hot Summer’s night and I was lost in the flood on the NJ turnpike… makes sense that it would happen that way I guess.

The kids call him Jimmy The Saint.

If there is one thing we’re good at here at A&SB is waiting a really long time for a movie to make its way to Netflix and then adding it to our Queue, getting it delivered to our houses and then losing the DVD under our couch for 2 weeks. REALLY good at that. I showed off this skill recently when I rented the movie Son of Rambow a year after it came out. After blowing the dust off of the envelope, I proceeded to sit back and watch one of the finest movies I’ve seen in years. Directed by Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy) Son of Rambow follows the story of a young child in the 80’s, WIll Proudfoot, who lives under the control of a strict and forceful religious Brethren, having no ties to any form of modern media. His world collides with a local bully who forces him to star in his amateur remake of the film Rambo… (try to imagine never watching television before in your life and then have Rambo be the first film you ever watch. Your mind would be torn apart).

Imagination takes over, friendships are born and innocence is lost in this incredibly endearing film. Go watch it right away.

Well, you all know of our unconditional love for Springsteen. Maybe one or two of you also know of our love for the band Joensuu 1685. So you can imagine our excitement when we found out that those two artists sort of crossed paths and new music was created. Joensuu 1685 have posted up their cover of “I’m On Fire” by Bruce Springsteen and it’s everything we ever dreamed of. To be honest, every time someone covers Bruce I absolutely hate it. Passionately (except for maybe Johnny Cash’s cover of this same song). Oh and I liked “My Father’s House” by Ben Harper… ok so never mind the ‘hate everything’ comment. Whatever, check out the “extended version” of the song below, love it and even download it if you like. They also have the non-extended version posted up on their MySpace.
