political life

What is important to some people really doesn't make a difference to others. The determining factor is what direction your life is headed. For me, and this political season, I do have a candidate in mind whom I think would be the best leader for the country. I did not choose him based on what he has promised to do, how he looks on the cover of Newsweek, how his part of the Presidential Debates sounded, or even based on what any of Fox News' analysts have to say. I chose him based on his character and track record, and what he publicly stands for. He has made his share of mistakes, and like me is and will continue to learn from them. It seems like in the past 50 years or even more, candidates have been made into heroes by their parties hold on the media, into villains by the contesting parties spin, and through the processes of tearing down the opponent and rebuilding the home campaign much respect has been lost for the seat of the President of the United States of America. And as with all other aspects of life, there is a trickle down effect that flows through to every seat of authority in the rest of society. Everyone can see that President Bush is one of the least respected men in within the boarders of this country, due mainly to the media. We show our children that its ok to say bad things about our President through our actions, and expect them not to say bad things about us. We then wonder why our children show no respect for us, their teachers, law enforcement, any adult, church leaders and pastors. We wonder why our coworkers (and honestly, ourselves) find it hard to respect our bosses and their decisions.
And how is it we can go to church, with all this pride and disrespect throughout our lives and in our own souls, and expect that God is pleased with us? It seems that the American church has placed such a high importance on man that we forget who the True and Righteous King is. We go about our lives and pretend that it is of ourselves, and forgetting that by not respecting our earthly leaders we are disrespecting the God who gave us these very lives. In the church, it has become such a 'user oriented interface' in that we are more worried about our ambient experience than we are about our right relationship with Christ. We need a revival of broken spirits.
In the coming days before this election, question yourself and the way you live your daily life, especially when things don't fit your plans. Will you respect the one who God chooses to lead this country, no matter who wins?
