Jay.j.Fresh (James Allen Hampshire) was born in Canada in 1984. At an early age, his parents uprooted the family and moved to the island nation of Vanuatu in the South Pacific. Here he was raised in humble circumstances in a one- bedroom shack with his five siblings. His younger days were spent climbing trees, swimming in the ocean, and playing with the local children.
Urban
Surrounded by a vast and rich culture of music and arts, a great love of rhythm and sound was instilled in him. He was strongly influenced by the traditional string band music of the area, as well as his parents' limited collection of popular music, listening to such artists as Phil Collins, Bob Marley, Boys II Men, All 4 One, Lionel Ritchie, Kriss Kross, Fresh Prince & Jazzy Jeff, and Michael Jackson.

Coming back to Canada was a huge culture shock, yet it allowed for many more opportunities to expand his musical horizons. He became very drawn to Hiphop and its culture, spending his high school lunch hours perfecting his B-boy skills.

It wasn't until a return visit to his childhood paradise of Vanuatu that he became truly inspired and motivated to pursue his love of music as a career.

His self-produced debut album, "Down by the Sea", showcases his unique style; a blend of Hip hop, RnB, Reggae/Reggaeton and Urban Island-style music.
