a week in the life

wednesday, april 30th.
missed out on mtsu's annual portfolio review. I declined to go, as I had no ride and did not trust my car for the trek. turns out, a lot of my friends went, even one who lives about 5 minutes away from me. and apparently, the talent abounds at mtsu this year. really wish I could have made it out! I haven't been back since I graduated...3 years ago. and I've never even seen the new 3rd floor of todd. we still had classes at saunders my last year there. also, talked with my friend alan on im and decided I would sell my 96 geo prism in his front yard that weekend. prime location. and I started zero-ing in on the scion xd as my #1 car choice. I had wanted a Honda, but the fits and elements were still out of my price range, ever so slightly. and finding the exact right element used, at the right price, without 500,000 miles on it was pretty impossible. so I stumbled upon the scion xd (NOT the giant box...the xd is a hatchback. and i loves it) and knew I had to have it. :) great standard features, looks great, definitely the best price for everything included. and it feels huge even though it's relatively small. this might have been the night we went and checked it out at beaman. oh and it's refreshing, because scions are pure-priced which means NO haggling. thank goodness! we passed hippodrome on the way to beaman and let me just say...sharks waiting to attack!

thursday, may 1st.
had lunch with jon in the park and it was sooo nice out. and nice to be outside, even for a bit. vowed to start bringing a book with me to work so I could take my lunch break in the park as often as possible. still haven't done that. haha. brought the book, but haven't made it to the park. anyway, jon went to the portfolio review so we talked about that and how insanely talented the new crop of kids are. we also discussed our love of design blogs and not sitting in an office all...day...long. bah. I admired his honda fit, too. after our romp in the park, my allergies kicked in big time. my head was pounding, my nose was drippy and I was ache-y. so when it came time for aaron & I to workout with shawn & christie that night, I passed. ...out on the couch. haha. seriously, though. I was all bundled up and just...could not move. so earl and the office kept me company while aaron was out. of course, my "cold" feelings turned into nothing and only proved to make me miss working out. not cool!

friday, may 2nd.
work was work. aaron took my car to get it overhauled. haha. at least, cosmetically so. it was washed, waxed and vacummed. looked like a brand, new little car. well, except for the large dent in the side, missing passenger mirror and door handle that doesn't open. :) we drove it out to alan & laura's. they took us to eat at this really good country cooking sort of place. I had the best grilled chicken and white beans. and salad. yum!! we then ventured to get ice creams and signs for my car. got back to their house and they helped prep my car for prime selling potential (they've done this a lot. as I said, their house is a prime car-selling locale). a sharpie and some neon poster board can spiff anything up. it's true.

saturday, may 3rd.
by 10:00 am, we had our first call about the car. by 2:30, we'd had at least a handful of calls. after a morning of sitting at beaman getting my finances squared away for my new car (!! why...esp. when the scion prices are FIXED, does it still take 3 hours to go through paperwork? I mean, seriously), we booked it down to columbia to get the title for my car. you see, it was still under my mom's name/insurance. we were there for about 5.2 minutes then we trekked it back to meet our first customer. very long story short, we camped out at alan & laura's house for like the next 4 hours or so, waited on numerous folks, only to turn around and sell it to that first guy. oh and drove it for him out to his home in ashland city. umm...yeah. oy! less than 24 hours and my car was sold...at only $200 less than what we wanted. not shabby! i'll admit, it was a little sad to see it go. it's been my car for 6 years and been with our family for 10. I said a quiet little "I love you car" before handing it over. then we detox-ed from the long day with beers and mexican food with beth & jason. and lots and lots of laughing. whew!

sunday, may 4th.
renaissance festival. it was fun, but I'm pretty sure not worth the $18 (per person) to get in. I got a clay, half moon pendant for $1, we ate an apple dumpling, some kettle corn, toured the castle (only one room of it, really) and grounds, watched some belly dancers, saw the joust and headed on back home. again, fun, but...not for the price. sorry, ren. fest-ers! I wanted to get a henna tattoo, but aaron would not stop at the table for me. kept thinking it was going to be too much money. :( sadness. we were home by 6:30 and eating dinner. ended the night by falling asleep on the couch while watching 40-year-old virgin. still have yet to see the last hour of that movie. someday!

monday, may 5th. cinco de mayo.
the only times it occurred to me that it was cinco de mayo were...1) when we had homemade tamale pie (delicious!) and margaritas for lunch @ work and 2) when the mexi-fest at the fairgrounds kept aaron & I awake that night as the announcer spoke loudly and fireworks were shot off. we live really close to the fairgrounds, fyi. guess our mexican feast on saturday counted for our cinco de mayo-ing. the remainder of our night was spent racing around town, running errands and buying groceries. and car mats. hehe. oh, also...my coworker brought back those digusting-flavored jelly belly beans from her trip to california (and the jelly belly factory). oh my. rotten egg was hands down the worst. and I felt transported to childhood. it was so gross and disgusting, it was wayyyy too much fun trying them all. aaron also called and got everything settled about my new scion. they had to have one sent by truck to the dealership, as they didn't have the color I wanted there. so...it came in on monday or tuesday, then they were going to install the security system and I should have it by friday!! :) I cannot wait. it will be my first new car ever. I've never even had power windows or a cd player in my car. this one even comes with an iPod connector and blinker lights on the side mirrors. i'm ecstatic, people. ec-freaking-static!!!!

tuesday, may 6th.
ashlie came to pick me up for work (as aaron had to go in early and...I am carless for now) and we fully realized that we live all of about 5 minutes from one another. carpool, what? i began my tea-drinking, because well, I love tea and I think my dependence on coffee (just one cup, every morning, but still) is getting a little too much. forgot my peppermints, though, at home. bummer. i love adding a peppermint to my tea. that's good times right there. aaron picked me up from work and we headed home to the pups. I was really irritated when we got home...just moody. but after a baked potato and salad, I was a new woman. :) aaron told me he tried to buy a shuffle for me for my car, but they were out at sam's. so we are going to order one from the apple store tonight, I think. yay! I sold my video iPod a year or more ago because I just never used it, but have been envious of aaron's shuffle (pronounced shoo-flay, of course) ever since. i think aaron's as excited about my new car as I am. after all, it will be OUR car very shortly. :)

---

and that was my week! I'm sure I left out life-altering moments here and there, but in a nutshell (help! I'm in a nutshell!)...there it was. I used to blog a lot. on livejournal and blogspot and typepad and xanga, etc. perhaps it's time to start it up again, as I deleted those old ones. and since I'm pretty officially over myspace. finally, I know. I cannot believe I've been on myspace for 5 years. and that aaron & I met there. haha. so I will most likely never delete the page, but...it's just not exciting at the moment. twitter currently holds my fascination. along with anything to do with gardening, house renovating, fashion or weddings.
