JEFF JEWKES, BETWEEN TWO WORLDS. . .
There are different passions motivating the artistic output of Jeff Jewkes: Jeff the singer/songwriter and Jeff the fine art photographer. To his audience, the manifestations of Jeff's best-loved works are up to the ear or eye of the beholder. But, for Jeff, it is a case of creative split personality.
In an earlier time when music (more specifically drumming) undoubtedly held sway in the heart of this multifaceted artist, one would find him happily pounding along touring and recording for various acts anywhere between Vegas and Seattle. "Originally, I resolved to be the best drummer I could, assuming my career would solely follow that path", Jeff states. Then came a move into songwriting, singing, playing and performing on additional instruments, ownership of recording studios and composing / scoring for film and video. While his musical talents diversified, so did the complexity of his horizons.
In the summer of 2005 a move to Colorado opened a door to investigate yet another diversification: nature and wildlife fine art photography. "I've always been involved in photography as a hobby", Jeff recalls. "After moving to Colorado I couldn't help but feel I should get more serious about it. Initially, it was a way to take a break from the pressures of the music business but before I knew it there were stores, galleries and exhibitions carrying my work; things just started to click here."
So how does one serve two masters? "Well, for instance", Jeff says, "I'm releasing music for my new album STANDARD CANDLES in phases so I can keep up with the photography business in between those releases. As well, I am using my stints in an out of photography to keep me refreshed musically, especially since I'm pretty much a one-man-band."
Jeff isn't sure how long he might be able to equalize his passions but is determined to, for the time being, live between two worlds. The first three songs for STANDARD CANDLES are available now worldwide through Apple's iTunes® and a new series of Jeff's fine art photography will be out by spring 2008. Reviews of both Jeff's music and photography are receiving critical acclaim so keep on the look out for this up-and-coming artist.

Many years ago I watched a documentary on the Skeleton Coast of Africa's Namib Desert. I can't remember what the title of the documentary was but it included a small excerpt about the infamous Dunedin Star shipwreck. . .
