Vacations -vs- Staycations

Stay at home vacation or "STAYCATIONS" just don't work for me.

I means I've tried everything to get them to work they just don't. They do work for Rose my wife and she's great at them. She can plan "staycations" just right. She'll hangout in the local area and put together some great daytrips and family outings. In fact some of the best smaller version of "staycations" "daycations" I've ever had have been planned by Rose for my birthday and anniversary, I can't get why they don't work for me.

So I tried to pull off a "staycation" this last week. I had originally taken off a week to attend a family reunion in Atlanta, GA...that is until my 2003 FORD (Found On Road Dead) Explorer cost me 3k to fix within three months of paying it off... really I'm not bitter. So I decided, that I'd give a "staycation" another try. I thought for sure a "staycation" would work this time since I had just returned from speaking at a teen camp on the beach in FL.

Once again, a "staycation" just didn't work for me. Why? Because there's so much stuff to be done (or that can be done) at home during a "staycation". For example, my schedule for the week: On Monday, I caught up on some odds and ends (laundry, e-mail, haircut, and a little house work) that I didn't get done the week before while speaking at a camp in FL. Tuesday, I had a great time hanging out with the kids...not really down time but a great time none-the-less. Wednesday, I cut the grass, did some grocery shopping, cooked dinner, and did some research for an upcoming speaking engagement in Kiev, Ukraine. Thursday, consisted of a couple of extra hours of sleep after getting the kids up and ready for the day and the dry cleaning detail, car wash, pay bills... you get the picture. It's hard to get an ADHD/ A-Type personality person away from work. A good example... the extra hours of sleep I got this morning have me up pretty late because I'm typing this entry at 2:59am. On Friday, the Fourth of July I cleaned out my overstuffed closet so I could give bunches of stuff away to the Goodwill, did some grocery shopping and once again cooked. This has been one of the busiest week of vacation or should I stay "staycation" I've ever had.

So here's my bright idea...no more "staycations" or "daycations" let's just revert back to the good ole vacation with all of the airports, car rentals, traffic, and relatives we don't really know. We should just get back to the vacations of old with its too much luggage, too many bathroom breaks, and too much stuff...that feel just like work? It's enough to make you want to stay at home...

Oh, no we're right back where we started--james-hey-ii
