As we travel throughout this life we come across many different things. Many things are told to us, and we do many things. As we travel in life, we listen to many people and we attempt to do the many things that they may advise us to do. Many of us live and die by the advise others give us. We at times become trapped by the voices of others rather than the voice of God.
How many of us allow the voice of God to lead and guide us throughout our lives? Some may ask, what does God sound like or what language does he speak. God has been thought of as a real small voice, that does not speak loud but when he speaks all gets quite. What or who do you spend your life listening to? How many people do you allow to confined you to the walls of what they think you should be. Yet still, I as well as many of you I have allowed many people to speak over my life and I have did as they have said. Some things have worked and others have not.
God speaks to us, many times before we go to anyone else for advise. The problem is that our minds are so full of the voices others have given us that we can not here the direction that God is leading.
We as human beings must focus not on the voices of others but focus on the voice of God. Sometimes we must change the people that are in our lives. We must learn to hear God, move as he directs us to move, yet still, we must be understanding to the people God has chosen to be in our lives. We must learn to get quite and focus on him while learning to be consumed by his love and grace.
My Bishop, Bishop Victor L. Powell, said today that "we must learn to not be religious while we are in our prayer closet." In other words we must learn to focus on him rather than attempting to do what we have heard or learned to do. Sometimes all God wants is for us to stand still be behold him. So, my people stay focused on the voice of God, stay focused on his love and passion for you, and by all means be careful who you listen to.
