OK, this seemingly philosophical question is actually directed towards religious studies, not religion... the way the subject is treated in Hong Kong, at least. I mean, look at my poor bible! (I'll probably upload a photo of the real thing soon)

upload the real thing, that would be interesting. I have never put a post-it in a bible, but I've never studied religion either..

I think religion for the most part, is for people who are, dare I say weak minded.
They can't accept what's around them as being all there is to it. I think religion does some good for people if that's what they need to grasp onto to keep themselves level headed or on the straight and narrow. One thing very important to me is keeping it to yourself, and it's always the "born-again" types that spout off the most. Of course there are religions I have more respect for than others, mostly eastern. The western perversions of religion with a vengeful angry god piss me off the most. If there is some "supreme being", I think he would have big enough shoulders to take some criticism and non-believers and shrug it off. I have not studied religion in a classroom setting, but am no dummy when it comes to knowledge of it. Just the other day I was in a particularly good mood and invited this old black lady in who was going door to door with religious propaganda, we had a long religious discussion. I made it clear to her that I was a non-believer, gave examples of problems I see with religion. She was receptive and also had her points, but realized she wasn't dealing with some idiot . The really great part is I outlasted her. She took the propaganda she was originally going to give me, put them back in her bag and said she had to leave. 1 point for me!!!!
I don't know if this is the kind of response you were seeking, but I personally like talking religion.

Thank you. I like talking about this kind of stuff too.
I agree with you and think the thing about religion that's the most annoying to me is the preaching. I simply don't think it's appropriate for people to force their belief down my throat even if I don't want it. A lady --- a total stranger--- once called me and gave me these long, tedious speeches... I was just a small kid and didn't know how to reject her. So I just kinda nod along, hoping she would hang up sooner or later. That lasted for a month, I think. If only I could be a little more like you, then I could've had a really good chat with her on religion, I'm sure. I admire your courage and persistence :)
