Iphone Competitors?

So I see that many companies keep trying to compete against the Iphone, I doubt they will succeed.

Apple was the first company to create an all touch-screen slim phone. It attracted many people to the point of them ditching their cellular networks and moving on to ATT because they were the only ones who were selling the Iphone.

I don't have an Iphone, but I Know how awesome they are. My friend has one and its pretty cool. The Iphone lacks some features but those are being taken care of now, so this phone will be better than it was when it first came out. The 3-g iphone is being released soon. Im sure more people will be running towards them since the internet will be 5 -10 times faster.

So what is it that these new touch phones will have that can possibly cause a person to possibly drop their Iphone or not consider buying an iphone for their product? For example, The Samsung Instinct is almost has the same features as an Iphone, but it has TV.it may have more applications, but Apple is working on adding more and third party applications. Some people try to convince you that it has an awesome browser. But one thing phone browsers dont do yet is support Flash.I think some phone would have to offer Flash on their machines to attract the customers. Apple just announced that Safari on the Iphone is the most widely used browser in the US.

What is a new phone gonna do that possibly the Iphone cant do? It would have to have a built-in coffee machine to possibly get my attention. wouldnt that be neat, a Caffiene Phone! hahaha. all you do is add the beans inside the phone and it grinds them and just add water!hehehe. or it would have to wash your clothes with built in Tide?

to attract an audience, phones have been made as fashion items and it has to be a product people would be attacted to. Phones are used nowadays to show off like jewelry cuz now you can add rhinestones on them, haha. Like J Lo, she had her phone glued with diamonds all over but she lost it at a Starbucks!! oh oh. haha.

Apple invented the Iphone to look as pretty as it can be. Its shiny.

Apple has already acquired the market with the Ipod. The Ipod, is the easiest mp3 player out there. although there were companies that introduced the mp3 player first, but Apple took it and made it better! They succeeded because they made a product simple to use. SIMPLICITY and USER-Friendly are the keys.

The phone I have is a Sprint Mogul HTC 6800. it is a pda-touch screen with stylus phone with a smaller screen. it has a slide out keyboard. it may be fat, but its an amazing tool despite the Windows Mobile freeze ups it gets once in a while. I love the applications I was able to install on them. I think it is a good investment if you use the internet constantly.

Happy New Years 2008 - Jesus Christ

Hello Everyone.

Have Happy New Years. May this new one be better than the last ones.

This is a brand new start for those who do not know Jesus Christ. Take the time to learn about Him. Christ can change your life for the better because He wants to bless you and form a relationship with you. He is definitely a good reason to live for and its worth it. Are you looking for a better life? Let Christ take control of your life for the better,a sinless life.

It is important to have Jesus as your Lord and Savior because we need Him to enter Heaven and not lose ourselves in this world. God is the only one who can provide the true peace and it is not

Some of you may say " I know Christ is real." That's good, but the question I have for you is "have you accepted Him as your only Lord and Savior?" the Word of God says in the Book of Romans in the Bible

" Romans 10 :9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

We all need salvation from God. You can do all the good works for people in this world, you can provide and be helpful to everyone in this world, but if you do not have Jesus Christ in your heart and as your savior, then your entrance to Heaven will be denied.

For the book of John 14:6 in the bible says: "

6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

I heard people say they don't believe in God because they feel He has never done anything for them. Well, I have something to ask you.

Have you taken the time to seek Him??

How can God help/bless you if we didn't take the time to look for Him in the first place?

How can we get lemonade if we do not go out there and find the lemons ourselves from the lemon tree?

We are all adults here. We are not little kids to ignore the gospel of Jesus Christ. For once in our lives, let's think about where our lives are heading. Do you know where your soul is going when you die? Heaven or Hell? The decision is up to you. We have an opportunity to ask the Lord to save us from eternal damnation. God is real! Take this from me. I have seen how God works in the lives of people who have been faithful to Him for years. I have seen God's power myself. We have a real God that still does miracles. He still responds to those to seek Him.

Are you sick?
Are you depressed?
Are you miserable?
Do you lack the peace you seek?

God can take care of that, but its up to you to step up to Him in faith and ask Him to help you.

The book of Hebrews 11:6 in the bible says:
6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him.
There is nothing Impossible to the Lord. NOTHING!!!!! If you can convince yourself that there is nothing impossible to the Lord, then you will have a victorious life.

I converted to Christian because by faith I made that step to follow Christ and let me tell you my life is better than it was before. If I had an opportunity to convert sooner, I would have. Christ is real and He will come back to pick up His church who are waiting for His return.

The Devil's job is to make sure you don't hear about Jesus Christ. Why? Because Christ is powerful and He is the only way to arrive to Heaven. Yes, people, there is a Devil .His name is Satan, and he has demons out there doing his work into making you do stupid stuff that will destroy your lives. Sometimes you wonder why strange paranormal activity occurs at homes. Guess who is doing that? Those lousy demons. We have to rebuke those demons in the name of Jesus Christ.

We have freedom in the United States to worship Jesus Christ because we are protected by the law. There are countries such as China where you will be arrested for just talking about Christ. That's insane how the devil works. Let me tell you something else. There are Muslims now that are converting to Christ because their eyes are being opened and they know now that Christ is real. Praise God for that too. Christ is your answer to this life. To HELP YOU LIVE A BETTER LIFE for Christ.

Take the time to pray to God, repent of your sins and say in a prayer:

" God, I know I have sinned in Your Eyes. I ask for forgiveness. I seek your salvation because I know that I deserve Hell for the things I have done. I am aware that the price of sin is death. But I acknowledge that your son Jesus Christ died for me on the cross as a sacrifice and paid the price with his blood to buy me. I also acknowledged that He ressurected on the third day of His death and He is my only true Lord and Savior. Please write my name in the Book of Life and wash me with the blood of Jesus Christ and let Him be the guide I need to a better life as a follower of Christ."

If you said the prayer in your time, let me know. I am willing to help you learn more about Christ. It is my job to serve God primarily than anything else. I put God first in my life and that's how it should be and its gonna be from now on. The power of the Holy Spirit is gonna be my guide to help as many people for salvation. If you have questions, ask me. You can visit me at my church and learn more about God. If you want to visit me at my church, I go here:

I think I will wait for a Google phone

I own a Samsung Upstage phone. It is one of the best phone I had. Samsung has perfect cameras of 1.3 megapixel on their phones.
I like the whole flip thing but i cannot reccomend that phone to people who do tons of texting or IMing. IT will annoy you.

I went to Best Buy the other day and I was told I can upgrade my Sprint agreement plan for another 2 years and I can get the Palm Centro for 100 dollars and the HTC Touch for 260 Dollars. Sounds like a sweet deal, but then I started to think about the upcoming Google application Android for the mobile sets.

It is said to wait for the google software like in the second half of 2008. I think I may wait for it then.

Google is one of the best search engines out there. They now own Youtube, and Youtube will be added to the google phones. So yeah, I am excited to see what will come out of it.

Motorola 3Q Plunges 94%; Bullish On 4Q Profit

source: http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/djf500/200710250927DOWJONESDJONLINE000780_FORTUNE5.htm

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Motorola Inc. (MOT) reported a steep 94% drop in its third-quarter net profit amid shrinking market share, but the progress shown in its mobile devices business should buy Chairman and Chief Executive Ed Zander some additional time.

The Schaumburg, Ill., company has struggled to find a worthy successor to the successful Razr amid heightened competition, leading to criticism of Zander and his team. But the quarter saw slight gains in profitability and average selling price, and the company offered up a rosier fourth-quarter forecast.

"The third quarter was about progress," Zander told analysts in a conference call on Thursday. "We also recognize there's a lot of work to do."

Analysts were generally pleased with the results, but acknowledged the progress was coming extremely slow. "They're going in the right direction, but at a turtle's pace," said Ittai Kidron, an analyst at CIBC World Markets.

Executives told analysts last month that a series of new cellphones would help break the company out of its slump. Motorola launched nine cellphones this month, including a luxury version of its Razr2.

Those new devices have yet to help. Motorola reported net income of $60 million, or 3 cents a share, versus a year-earlier profit of $968 million, or 39 cents a share. One-time items include 4 cents a share in restructuring charges and 1 cent in earnings from discontinued operations.

Analysts, on average, forecast earnings of 4 cents a share. The company said in July that it expected third-quarter earnings to be flat to slightly up from second-quarter earnings from continuing operations, excluding items, of 2 cents a share.

Revenue fell 17% to $8.81 billion.

"The light of the tunnel is getting a little bit brighter," said Mark Sue, an analyst at RBC Capital.

Motorola does offer a more optimistic view of the fourth quarter. The company projected earnings from continuing operations of 12 cents to 14 cents a share. Analysts were expecting earnings of 10 cents.

"We see the industry growing in the double-digit-plus range," said Greg Brown, president and chief operating officer. He added the company would be pushing more third-generation, or 3G, phones, as demand increases.

But Kidron noted that a chunk of the higher earnings forecast comes from tax benefit. "It's still a very slow turnaround," he said, adding that he expects the company's mobile devices business to break even in June.

In the third quarter, Motorola shipped 37.2 million handset units. Its mobile- device unit posted a 36% decline in revenue to $4.45 billion. The segment lost $ 248 million, versus year-earlier earnings of $843 million. Motorola said in July that it didn't expect the unit to be profitable by year-end, although it did expect financial results to improve during the second half of the year.

Motorola's share of the global handset market was estimated to be 13%. That's a 50 basis point drop from the second quarter, as global leader Nokia Corp. ( NOK) widens its lead and rivals Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (005930.SE) and LG Electronics Inc. (066570.SE) make headway.

Activist investor Icahn said he may launch a new campaign against Motorola if performance there doesn't improve, the Financial Times said earlier this month.

Earlier in the year, Icahn had campaigned to join the board in a bid which resulted in an increasingly bitter war of words. He failed in his bid when shareholders voted for the incumbents in May.

The pressure on Zander comes as Sprint Nextel Corp.'s (S) chief executive, Gary Forsee, stepped down earlier this month amid continuing problems at the No. 3 U.S. wireless carrier. The weakness in Sprint's Nextel line of phones was a key catalyst of Motorola's slump.

The slight improvement has earned management a slight reprieve. "I think there's still a lot of pressure on not only Zander, but the senior management team," Sue said. "The nudge of improvement buys them some additional time."

First Look: Palm Centro

Palm's Centro is a big step forward in a small package.
Yardena Arar, PC World
Thursday, October 11, 2007 10:00 PM PDT

source: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,138372-c,pdacellphonehybrids/article.html

If, like me, you own an aging and increasingly bulky-looking Palm Treo but are reluctant to abandon the Palm OS, the Centro may be the interim smart phone you've been waiting for.

I say "interim" because the shipping unit I received today still lacks features that are routinely available on competing Windows Mobile and BlackBerry devices--most notably Wi-Fi and GPS support. But to get a Palm-like package equipped with those amenities, we'll probably have to wait for the Linux-based successor to the Palm OS, which isn't expected to appear before 2008.

And given what the Centro does deliver--Palm OS in its most contemporary and petite package yet, plus good mobile broadband support via Sprint's EvDO network--it's very attractively priced, at least for new users who sign up for a two-year Sprint contract and an all-you-can-eat data plan. The rebates associated with those contracts bring the device's nominal $400 price down to a palatable $100.

Slimmed-Down Hardware

The Centro is significantly tinier (4.2 by 2.1 by 0.7 inches) and lighter (4.2 ounces) than its Treo kinfolk, and its smooth plastic case feels comfortable in the hand.

But it's definitely made of cheaper stuff than the Treo. I found the removable battery cover a bit fragile and somewhat difficult to remove and replace. As I struggled to snap it into place, I worried that the cover might break. Similarly, the skinny black plastic stylus feels as though it might snap in two if you looked at it cross-eyed.

I was confused by the small plastic door on the side labeled 'Micro SD': You can pull out the door with a fingernail, but the only way to insert the card is after you've first opened the battery cover. It would have made more sense if Palm had designed the door not to open at all unless the user removes the battery cover. As matters stand, the door is one more thing that might break if handled roughly.

Because the device is so small, its keyboard keys are proportionately diminutive, and I feared that typing would be an unpleasant experience. But Palm has done a good job here. The keys are coated in a squishy plastic that keeps your fingertips from slipping, and the keyboard's smaller size didn't slow me down much.

The transflective 2.4-inch 320-by-320 color touch screen looks good, though it's smallish. The navigation controls--an oval pad; buttons for the phone interface, the main Palm OS menu, the calendar, and e-mail; a red on/off button; and a green Send button--were responsive and easy to use.
A Decent Phone, Too

To test the Centro's performance as a cell phone, I made several phone calls--with excellent results. The people at the other end sounded as good as on a landline, and they reported that I sounded great, too.

The phone supports Bluetooth, but I didn't have a chance to try it out with a Bluetooth headset (none was included in the package we received for testing).

Web browsing with the Blazer browser over Sprint's EvDO network was a sheer delight, especially since I'm used to the rather pokey speeds of AT&T Wireless's EDGE network on the Treo. Pages seemed to leap onto the screen, especially from sites that have been optimized for mobile browsers. Even nonoptimized sites appeared quickly.

E-mail setup went smoothly, but to use the Centro with my Windows Vista PC, I had to install new Palm desktop software that doesn't support e-mail sync over the USB sync cable.

Sanyo in talks to sell mobile unit

TOKYO - Troubled electronics maker Sanyo Electric Co. is in final negotiations to sell its mobile phone operations to Japanese rival Kyocera Corp., the companies said Thursday.

Under the talks, Kyocera has priority negotiating rights to buy the business, and they will work toward an agreement after assessing the value of Sanyo's assets, they said in a joint statement.

No price was set for the deal, although the Nikkei reported that Kyocera offered 70 billion yen ($597 million).

The long-anticipated sale is a sign that Goldman Sachs and other investors, who last year saved Sanyo in a 300 billion yen ($2.56 billion) bailout, are finally seeing results.

Sanyo's former president was ousted this spring after he refused to make major changes. Sanyo has already sold its small mobile phone retail business and dumped its remaining holdings in Sanyo Electric Credit Co.

It is also in the final stages of auctioning off its semiconductor business. Together, the three units in the sell-offs accounted for nearly a quarter of its sales last fiscal year.

Sanyo is trying to book a group profit this fiscal year for the first time in four years.

Sanyo, whose businesses are widespread and include TVs and household appliances, has said it sees its solar and battery operations as its core business.

Sonic, online play confirmed for Super Smash Bros Brawl

Redmond (WA) - Fulfilling the wishes of countless fans of the Nintendo fighting series, Sonic the Hedgehog will be a playable character in an online-capable Super Smash Bros Brawl.

Nintendo confirmed the news this week at a press conference in Japan, according to local gaming blog Ge-maga. The site also said that Sonic will be able to turn into Super Sonic as part of his list of moves in the game.

It will bring to life one of the most hoped for additions to the new game. Many thought Sega's blue mascot would appear in the Gamecube game Super Smash Bros Melee, and that idea has stuck around with fans of the series ever since.

Revealed at E3 last year, Konami icon Solid Snake will also make an appearance in Brawl. Nintendo has said the character line-up is still not officially complete.

At the press conference, Nintendo also mentioned an online co-op mode, saying things are coming together for a Wi-Fi play option. Previously, the video game giant refused to comment on whether or not the title would have any form of online component.

There is a downside to the news, though. The game has been pushed back to 2008, which will no doubt also postpone the December 3 launch in the US.

Apple has abandoned its founding ethos of creativity and innovation by hanging up on third-party software developers

I don't own an iPhone, and I don't think I ever will. That may come as a surprise to anyone acquainted with my long history of owning and liking Apple (AAPL) products.

It's not that I don't think it's an extraordinary device (BusinessWeek.com, 7/3/07). Having tried it, I think it represents a fundamental step forward in what a mobile phone can be. And it sure looks like it's going to be imitated six ways to Sunday.

But what I can't take is how Apple is keeping the iPhone from evolving in a manner consistent with its corporate heritage. Over the years I've owned many wireless devices, including a Treo (PALM), three or four BlackBerrys (RIMM), and tested my share of phones running Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows Mobile and the Symbian OS, majority owned by Nokia (NOK).
Web Apps Only

In almost every case, I've had an important option I wouldn't get on the iPhone: installing third-party software. What's so big about that? Sometimes the package of software installed on the phone simply isn't very good. My BlackBerry, for instance, comes with an instant messaging program I found lacking, so I installed an excellent alternative called JiveTalk. On the BlackBerry, it's a dedicated application, installed directly on the device via a cellular download.

A version works on the iPhone, but only through the phone's Web browser--rather than the phone itself. Good luck using JiveTalk when its Web site is hammered by thousands of users at once. In fact, the only way to use an outside application of any kind on the iPhone is via the Web browser. If you're a software developer and want to create some software that runs after being installed directly on the iPhone itself, you're officially out of luck. Unofficially, you can only install your application after jumping through some technical hoops that Apple says run the risk of voiding your warranty, damaging the phone, and generally wreaking untold havoc.
Is the iPhone that Fragile?

Why all the sturm und drang? Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs will tell you opening the device could leave the network vulnerable. Carriers such as AT&T (T), Apple's U.S. iPhone provider, "don't want to see their West Coast network go down because some application messed up."

Hogwash, I say. Like many BlackBerry users, I've installed and removed scores of applications from my BlackBerry over the years, and never once heard a peep from T-Mobile (DT) about bringing down its network. No one has yet been able to explain to me how even the most ill-designed software could conceivably do such harm to the wireless network.

And really, is the iPhone so delicate that one nasty application damages its software permanently? I thought the device runs Mac OS X. If you believe Apple's marketing, the operating system is rock solid, hard to break, easy as pie to use, and so on. One bad application can do all that damage? The iPhone itself isn't just a phone or an iPod. It's really a mobile computer. Apparently one so powerful that software developers are forbidden to do anything for it, short of cute little Web-based applications, yet so sensitive that it's easy to screw up. That's one way to inspire confidence in a product.

Putting Profit Before Progress

Historically Apple's Macintosh computers have remained relevant because of the ongoing efforts of dedicated, enthusiastic software developers who continued to build great applications even when the size of the Mac-using community was dwindling. Shutting developers out of its latest, greatest accomplishment is a lousy thing to do.

But then again, it's not like Apple's other recent blockbuster products, those of the iPod variety, are terribly open to software developers either. Apple controls every bit of software that goes into the iPod. The games available from the iTunes online music store, for instance, are Apple-approved. If I wanted to build one, I couldn't just release it to the world like I would for the Mac or PC. I would have to go through Apple. The same set of circumstances appears to be true for the iPhone. Apple has built a stone wall around it, preventing throngs of independent software developers from pushing the device to reach its full potential. If the only way to peddle my wares is through the iTunes store, the way iPod games are now, then so be it. But why not open it up?

Software developers are part of what makes the Mac the strong platform it is. But on the iPhone they're just troublemakers (BusinessWeek.com, 8/2/07). Troublemakers who might, in the worse case, cost Apple and its hand-picked partners money. And that's why Jobs has promised to stop them. For starters, they may unlock the phone, enabling it to be used on any network, not just that of AT&T. Beyond that, they'll create applications that could rankle any number of other Apple partners.

Build an app to create your own ringtones out of your own collection of MP3 music files, and you go against Apple's approved method of paying a fee--99¢ on top of the 99¢ you paid for the song originally--to make one on iTunes, thereby costing Apple and the record labels extra cash. Create your own method of downloading music or video via Wi-Fi, and you go against the approved method of buying an iTunes song via Wi-Fi at Starbucks (SBUX). Sure, it's innovative--no other online music service has a similar feature--but must there be only one way to make the iPhone interesting to own? Do commercial partnerships and contractual entanglements have to come before creativity and home-brewed innovation?
Inconsistent with Apple's Branding

Wasn't Apple itself the creation of two guys in garage with a knack for making interesting ideas into real things? So why punish the people who try to create something interesting, threatening them with the prospect of an inoperative phone?

Apple insiders argue privately that the iPhone is a new device. In time, they say, maybe the development policy could change, though none say definitively that it ever will.

Until that happens, the company that styles itself as the technology supplier of choice for creative people with great ideas is insisting that to own its products is to accept a defined orthodoxy where there's only one acceptable way to do things. That doesn't sound like the Apple I know. So I'm not going to buy an iPhone. And until Apple commits to changing this ridiculous policy, I don't think you should either.

Woman sues over Apple's iPhone price cut

source: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071001/ap_on_hi_te/apple_iphone_lawsuit

SAN JOSE, Calif. - A New York woman is so angry at Apple Inc. for lopping $200 off the price of the iPhone that she's filed a lawsuit seeking $1 million in damages.

Dongmei Li of Queens, N.Y., claimed the company violated price discrimination laws when it slashed the price of the 8-gigabyte iPhone by a third, from $599 to $399, within two months of the gadget's June debut.

Apple lowered the iPhone's price on Sept. 5 and also said it would stop selling the $499 4-gigabyte model. Hundreds of early customers who paid full price didn't expect the reduction to come so soon and complained.

Apple issued an apology the next day. Under its return policy, Apple refunded the $200 difference for those who bought the phone within 14 days of the reduction. And in a move to make peace with those who purchased the higher-priced phone before that period, the company offered a $100 credit at Apple stores.

According to Li's lawsuit, filed on Sept. 24 in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York, the price reduction injured early purchasers like herself because they cannot resell the product for the same profit as those who bought the cell phone following the price cut.

Li purchased a 4GB iPhone for $499 and alleged that owners of the 4GB model were given less favorable terms than those who bought the 8GB model at the premium price, according to the lawsuit.

An Apple representative did not immediately return a call to comment Monday.

The lawsuit also named AT&T Inc., the exclusive carrier in the U.S. for the iPhone, and alleged the two companies' required two-year service contract for the iPhone constituted unfair business practices.

Mark Siegel, an AT&T spokesman, declined to comment, saying he had not yet seen the lawsuit.
