Well, Polaroid Week 2009 is starting up again. It feels like yesterday we just had the last Polaroid Week, but I’m definitely not complaining.
This photo was taken about a week ago. Her name is Tiara. She works at Bongo Java, one of my favorite coffee shops in Nashville. She comes in to Whole Foods sometimes and likes the vegan crab cakes we have. And after this photo was taken, she saved my life. A giant wasp landed on me and started to walk up my leg. After a bit of freaking out by both of us (probably more from me… I hate wasps!), she did a ninja move and kicked it off, then stomped on it and went back to work. I owe her my life.
This photo also marks the first official photo of my new portraits series entitled “Faces: Nashville”. As some of you may know, I’ve been working on a portraits series for a while now, but had a hard time thinking of the direction I wanted it to go. All the while, I was really just inspired by my friend and fellow film photographer Colie Parks to do a similar project that she’s been doing for quite some time now. However, the difference in our geographical location and our own styles of photography lends itself to creating a “brother” project of my own. Thus, “Faces: Nashville”. I intend to keep it going indefinitely, and at this point I’m unsure how much I plan on sharing with the online web world. But I intend to try and carry my Polaroid SX-70 with me wherever I go to capture faces of my friends, strangers, and frengers.
