Apple

iPhone, Leopard, a new website design and layout. It seems as though Apple is constantly changing, shifting and growing. Why do you suppose that some companies have the guts to change everything? To reach out and try something new, and most likely dangerous, and some don't?

I think the reason people don't is that they find something that works for them, and once settled, have a very hard time breaking out of that perceived security, and allowing change. Basically, they're afraid.

But I don't think they're afraid for the same reasons most people think they are. I think they are afraid that their success lies in their own ability to guage the validity of an idea. They're afraid their imagination isn't strong enough, or tested enough, to bring something revolutionary to market, and they'd be able to, at the very minimum, break even.

So, why is it that Apple can, with an extremely successful line of computers, software, and the single best selling portable music platform in the world, change everything, and try to enter new markets? I think the answer is simple; they have to. Change is a requirement in a living organism. It's not a choice, and for the most part, if you don't make wise decisions, the organism will become ill and need repair. But that's not to say that it will die, it just needs repair, and that usually takes on the form of... you guessed it. Change.

So, I look forward to new things. Exciting things that peak my interest in ways I didn't even know existed. So, keep up the change, and challenge yourself to do something new... so I have something to play with.
