Sultry songstress Joy Simone began her musical journey in the gospel choirs of her minister father's Baptist church. Following in the footsteps of her grandmother, a young woman in the Harlem jazz age, Joy was deeply inspired by the Harlem Renaissance.
Joy began composing at age 15. As a James Dickson Carr Scholar at Rutgers University, she found inspiration in avant-garde art masters
John Cage and Wassily Kandinsky. Her study of the life and works of John Cage led to the development of her groundbreaking "psychobiographical writing" combining the fields of psychology and musicology.
Her seductive voice has earned her comparisons to the likes of Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and Etta James.
