Today I was reminded of a prayer Introduced to me eon's ago. The prayer of St. Francis... For those of you who don't know him, heres a link...
Now, don't get me wrong this aint me being all emergent or postmodern, I don't give a crap if ya just thought about God for the first time today or you're so sub-cultured out your wearing a stripped shirt with a logo on it, although if you have just met Him or are thinking about Him for the first time, cool!
This prayer is money and I'm gonna give it up to the Lord toady as well, so relax... this aint me getting in your grill about prayer, I'm jut saying...
Why was I reminded of this??? These last few weeks it's been all about when God first tapped me on the shoulder, thats been the vibe in my heart lately. In 1985 when I prayed for God to do something to me, the guy I was praying that prayer with gave me a book and this prayer was in it. I used to pray it all the time, but life and time got to me and the book got shelved and I moved on. I kept praying but forgot about St Francis until today... I was just being quite and these words flooded back to me... Here ya go....
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.
Have at it... J.R.
