Jrumhand hails from London and now resides in Kent. He is a composer of music within the 'drum and bass' genre. With three releases already on the exciting new soulful label, Binary Soul Records, Jrumhand is busy developing his production skills using Ableton Live.
His music has already featured in the sets of legendary DJ's and producers such as Dezert Rat, Mike Bolton (PFM), Pete Rann and Neil Trix.
Jrumhand is receiving radio support from DJ Dezert Rat on his weekly Liquid Mondays Show on the mighty Kool FM, LJ High & MC HiFi on dnbmidlands radio as well as on Bassdrive radio by DJ Stunna from Chicago, DJ Overfiend in New York and Methodus in Florida. There is also support by a French connection of DJ's; producers such as Psyko Konceptor and Slycut via Dropzone Frequency Radio.
Jrumhand is grateful for all the support shown so far and will continue to pursue his passion for this genre of music. His recent purchase of studio monitors and a sound card interface should see the quality of his productions increase.
Jrumhand was intrigued by pianos and began taking lessons from the age of 6, primarily learning classical pieces up to grade five; discovering the many jazz scales and improvisational techniques which come with that genre of music.
When he was 15 he purchased some Citronic belt drive turntables and a Roclab MRT60 mixer, eventually saving up and progressing to a pair of second hand Technics SL1210's from the Loot newspaper!
His early record collection consisted of hardcore house, hip hop and soul from the likes of Young MC, NWA, EPMD, De La Soul and music on the Delicous Vinyl, Production House, Moving Shadow, R&S and Rising High record labels. When hardcore morphed into jungle he was hooked and spent a fortune on vinyl in Music Power, Ilford spanning labels such as Ibiza, Third Party, Reinforced, Labello Blanco, Rugged vinyl, Metalheadz and Good Looking Records to name but a few.
Gradually, the music grew very dark and he began to get disillusioned with its progression around that time. He began to get into hard techno and trance frequenting places like ‘The Drum Club’ at Heaven, Megadog and Megatripolis. He was also producing some tracks on a piece of tracker software called Med on an old Amiga 500 with 1MB memory which came free with Amiga Format magazine!
Then, after listening to a tape from a Wednesday night LTJ Bukem radio show on Kiss FM, he was totally moved and inspired by the new drum and bass sounds of PFM, Chameleon and Essence of Aura. He realised that there was a progression going on in the scene and was egaer to return to it. That one radio show rekindled his interest in the scene. He went down to Speed at Mars one Thursday night with his cousin Rob, and they were both absolutely blown away! They attended there regularly, also heading over to the Blue Note when they could for the Metalheadz night on a Sunday.
When he wasn’t in London, he was at college in Northampton and set up a drum and bass, night called ‘Deep’ with D. Sully from Cork which took off but came a bit too early for the town unfortunately. They modelled it on ‘Speed’ playing deep drum and bass they had purchased from the local record shop, Waxfactor.
Returning from a year spent travelling the world in 2002 and realising that drum and bass was now a global scene Jrumhand got his own night at a mate’s bar, The Charterhouse in Farringdon , London next door to the Fabric nightclub where he played drum and bass and old school hip hop for a few months before relocating to the Garden of England.
In January 2007, he was introduced to Ableton Live and began to make music on his laptop; turning his hand at making drum and bass and contributing to the scene and genre of music that has provided so many happy memories.
