Every time I try to look directly at the camera I either look goofy or pissed off. I have this thing with photographs. I just can't be looking at the camera...
I think it stems back to growing up and my mom ruining every occasion by forcing us to take photos, then we'd have to hold these fake smiles forever as she tried to work the camera. It's just easy if I look off in the distance and don't worry about "holding a face" while the picture is being taken.

However, I do agree with that 'hold the smile' thing - I used to get that too - you hold the rictus smile until finally you start to ask 'are you ever goi...' and flash - there you have it, the same old photo of you with your eyes half closed and a snarl on your face!
Which is why I too don't bother with photos of me.
