Global Rhythm feature & interview!

Justin Adams will be featured in the July issue of Global Rhythm magazine! Adams is also quoted in an article about African music in the current Christian Science Monitor.

"On Soul Science [Adams] teams with Gambian vocalist and ritti (single-stringed fiddle) player Juldeh Camara to present further evidence that the roots of the blues - and, by extension, rock and roll - lie in West Africa. The two succeed brilliantly, splitting the difference between the Upper Niger and the Mississippi Delta with a sharp, swaying onslaught of songs that rock with muscular, power-chord swagger and retain the tart, Arabic-rooted griot majesty that indelibly colors the music in West African hues. Expertly assisted by percussionist Salah Dawson Miller and bassist Billy Fuller, Adams and Camara prove to be very soulful collaborators indeed." - Tom Orr (article & interview)

West Africa's music enchants the West
Bluesy, trancelike melodies pull in wider audiences in the US and Europe, as the music's exotic rhythms move mainstream.

"If you look for the roots of rock 'n' roll, you find them in the blues. And if you look for the roots of the blues, you'll find it in West Africa," says Justin Adams, a guitarist in Robert Plant's band who has just recorded his own album, "Soul Science," with Gambia's Juldeh Camara. "You can draw such a nice line from groups that people really love from their teenage years - The Rolling Stones, or whatever - to Tinariwen, who have electric guitars that really buzz." - Stephen Humphries (article)
