O.K. here's some stuff I've been thinking about today...
"...fresh, now, progress us toward something awesome, take it to the next level." This is a quote my boss told me when I first started at Newspring. I love this quote. But with this quote there is action required. If I want to be fresh, now, and progressive - I have to not only stay in the Word, but also in the pursuit of relevance, I have to be aware of what is happening around me, culturally. I have a couple of friends, I'll call them Bible Guys, they know the Word front to back, but these Bible Guys would never get the chance to share it with most of my unsaved friends because they still talk in King James. Don't misunderstand me, there is nothing wrong with KJV, I read it sometimes and use it to study with, but it was the lingo of its time... not ours (If you think I am poking fun at the Bible and you missed the point I was trying to make, this might be a warning flag that you aren't as relevant as you thought). I recently had a friend that gave his life over to Christ and he received a KJV Bible from someone at his church as a gift. I asked him how his quiet times were going and he sheepishly answered that he was trying, but he felt bad because he had a hard time understanding what the Bible was saying. "I mean, what does 'beseech' mean?" he asked.
Here is what I am trying to say, if you are hungry for God to do something new, fresh, and progressive don't let stuff (tradition, laziness, fear, and so on) stand in your way. If some people have a hard time reading KJV go grab them The Message. I believe after reading The Message they will be thrilled because God's Word spoke to them. We have to strive to create environments that are relevant. The Word is always relevant; it's ye and I that need the update.
Check out Malakai Clothing, they have some sweet stuff!
